Alex, have you noticed a kind of Catholic monarchist undertone by some in this thread? Somebody even suggesting a “benevolent” Catholic monarchy our only hope. For that reason, does there exist in the hearts of some Catholics a hope that hated protestant America does go down? Since B-chan, a Catholic and the author of the piece, is gone, we can’t ask him.

What you mention is precisely why the Framers and Founders of the USA chose the wording they chose in many instances and is the main outcome they were very intent on preventing, if possible.
