gotta love the prosperity gospel. joel and victoria sure do.
and if you fail to prosper, it’s your fault, you didn’t believe hard enough or tithe enough.
**and if you fail to prosper, its your fault, you didnt believe hard enough or tithe enough.**
After church yesterday my wife ran into Starbucks (off campus) to grab a quick cup of coffee. We just heard a sermon on God’s judgment. The week before we heard one on our sin. And the week before we heard about the fall. Each week the sermon concluded with the Good News that Jesus died for sinners. Next week we will hear a 30 minute sermon on the atoning life of Jesus.
While she was inside I flipped it over to the Osteen channel and he was spewing some nonsense about sending up vapors of praise, and if we do that we will get all sorts of blessing from God. We will be cured of physical ailments. We will make new business contacts. Over the next 20 minutes we heard all sorts of blather that does not at all resemble any teaching in the Bible. It all sounded like if I send up vapors of praise God owes me.
I feel sorry for people who actually believe this. When bad things happen, and they will, they will feel guilt for not sending up enough vapors.
We were both appalled.
