The practice of assigning names to the Holy Angels should be discouraged, except in the cases of Gabriel, Raphael and Michael whose names are contained in Holy Scripture [ibid.].**
God is over us. We cannot name our guardian angels.
Guardian angels are not necessarily there to save us from violent death; their principal task is to help us get to heaven. If they were assigned to keep us forever safe from all harm and stayed the hands of murderers, we would have little reason for faith, knowing that notjogg could ever go wrong. In other words, horrors do not disprove the existence of angels, much less of God.
I didn’t know that you weren’t supposed to name your angel...too bad, I believe that your angel’s name is what you named your first companion toy...Mine was a white Teddy bear and her name was Alice.....so is my angel’s...

But of course this is not in the Scriptures and is just conjecture.

The passage you quoted does not say or demonstrate that a guardian angel exists to get us to heaven. It is about an angel warning Joseph to flee to preserve Jesus’ physical life. It doesn’t even say it was a guardian angel of Joseph or Jesus.
Perhaps you saw some connection to the post you responded to and would clarify what you had in mind?

Or is this another case of, that's what Scripture says, but that's not what it means?
Thank you for sharing such a personal and poignant story. We can draw great comfort in recognizing that God has assigned us a guardian angel.
I have never seen my guardian angel, but he or she rescued me from almost certain death about 40 years ago.

This is a wonderful passage of a Scripture, but It does not say that the purpose of a guardian angel is to get us to heaven.
