If you really believe this I hope you are living very near your priest so you can confess your sins on a daily, if not hourly, basis.
If, as according to the RCC, you commit a mortal sin and it's unconfessed to the priest, you do not go to Heaven. The real meaning: one would go to Hell.
However, Jesus promsies:
John 3:16-18
16For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
17For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.
18Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of Gods one and only Son.
That's right; the act of committing a mortal sin means that you have rejected God.
That's why the prudent Catholic refrains from committing mortal sins.
Given the nature of mortal sins, it's really not that hard.
Ah; yes!
I remember all the media coverage of that!
Only to those who have hardened hearts - and thats many of the Protestant anti-Catholics here.
I think they're easier to commit that one realizes. For example, adultery. Jesus said if you look upon a woman with lust in your heart, that's adultery.
If we are honest, this happens on a frequency most of us don't want to admit. And if we say it doesn't now we're lying.
However, the concept of mortal and venial sins and their impact on severing God's grace, that is His gift of salvation, is not Biblical.
Without faith in Christ, all sin seperates us from God. Belief in Christ restores and maintains our relationship with God.

It works the same way in the spiritual realm.

The catechism defines mortal sin to include these as mortal sins
>LyingLying is the most direct offense against the truth. It is gravely sinful when it significantly degrades the truth. The gravity of this sin is measured by the truth it perverts, the circumstances, intentions of the liar and harm done to the victims (CCC 2484).
You have a 401(k)? You ever demand a raise?
>AvariceAvarice is greed and the desire to amass earthly goods without limit. It is a passion for riches and luxury. Those who seek temporal happiness at the expense of spiritual duties, risk the grave sin of avarice. Avarice is one of the deadly vices (CCC 2536).
Do you exceed the speed limit?
>Endangering their own and others' safety by drunkenness or a love of speed on the road, at sea or in the air
lots of catholics vote for pro-abortion candidates...the church even allows pro-abortion politicians to participate in Communion!
>Abortion
Do you buy a product made overseas?
>Taking advantage of the poor
>Refusing or withholding a just wage
>Idolatry (refer to Mary on this one)
Do you ever overeat? Are you overweight?
>GluttonyGluttony is an excessive love for food, and is a disordered passion for wordly appetites. Because it is contrary to the virtue of temperance, it can constitute a grave sin. Gluttony is also a capital sin (CCC 1866, 2290)
ever get a little tipsy? For that matter do you even drink alcohol knowing the possible dangers?
Alcohol AbuseAlcohol abuse can also be excessively dangerous and harmful to the body, and sometimes to neighbors (CCC 2290).. Because it is also contrary to temperance and is a disordered passion, it is a grave sin (1 Corinthians 6:9-10).
ever seen a woman or man naked at the movies?
>PornographyPornography is the display of intimate real or simulated sexual acts to a third party. Because it removes the marriage act from within the sacramental sanctity of marriage, and perverts sex, it is gravely contrary to charity (CCC 2354).
Do you understand why I said if you're catholic you better keep the priest close by? Not a day goes by a "mortal sin" is not committed. There is no way, not even on our best day, do we ever come close to being "good enough" for God.
If you believe this, your life must be in constant fear of dying without having seen the priest. That is not how God has intended us to live as His children.
Paul described our efforts at this as being like filthy rags.
This list, and it's not inclusive, shows us just how wretched we really are and why we need a Savior to cleanse us from all unrighteousness: that includes the mortal and venial sins.
Only the shed blood of Christ can do this.
Praise be to God for His Son Jesus Christ who died for us and if we believe in Him, He forgives us for all of our sins.
I’ll take your advice. The Good News is the Gospel of Jesus Christ, contained in the Catholic Church and no where else.
Thanks for reminding me.
God can remove that (and any) temptation completely, if you're serious. I know whereof I speak. Stay close to Christ and He will truly free you from sin.
Unless your definition of lust is "gosh she's pretty", then you have other problems to fix first.
“If, as according to the RCC, you commit a mortal sin and it’s unconfessed to the priest, you do not go to Heaven. The real meaning: one would go to Hell.”
No. It is not that the sin must be confessed to a priest (although that would be best if circumstances allow it) - for that might be impossible because of circumstances. The sin must be renounced and repented of. God sent priests for confession (John 20:19-23), but God knows that not everyone has access to a priest at all times.
A man who had committed a mortal sin, and genuinely had contrition for it can, if he were in a situation where confession to a priest were impossible, commit himself to the mercy of God in perfect contrition. I have no reason to doubt God’s mercy in that situation. I also have no doubt that God has been merciful enough to give us confession to help us avoid that situation in the first place.
What we see here again is that you’re attacking something you apparently don’t even understand because, if you did understand it, then you would not have made the mistake you just made.
1484 “Individual, integral confession and absolution remain the only ordinary way for the faithful to reconcile themselves with God and the Church, unless physical or moral impossibility excuses from this kind of confession.” There are profound reasons for this. Christ is at work in each of the sacraments. He personally addresses every sinner: “My son, your sins are forgiven.” He is the physician tending each one of the sick who need him to cure them. He raises them up and reintegrates them into fraternal communion. Personal confession is thus the form most expressive of reconciliation with God and with the Church.
1452 “For contrition to forgive mortal sins it must arise out of our love of God. “When it arises from a love by which God is loved above all else, contrition is called perfect (contrition of charity). Such contrition remits venial sins; it also obtains forgiveness of mortal sins if it includes the firm resolution to have recourse to sacramental confession as soon as possible””.
What is wrong with the RC mind that it simply responds with the same mantra that was just exposed as fallacious, because it impugns their object of security and devotion? It remains that thinking this actually attracts truth seekers is further testimony to their infantile minds and cultic devotion and blindness. Now live with yourself .
There is but one Church founded by Christ, the Catholic Church. Historically, none other can trace their roots back to the time of Christ. For the first 1000 years of Christianity, if one was Christian, one was Catholic. There was no other Church. Then, in 1054 A.D., the Orthodox split off. They retained Apostolic Succession, and, therefore, all seven Sacraments. Only in 1517 A.D., did Protestantism begin. Now, there are literally thousands of man-made, doctrinally disagreeing denominations, all claiming to be led by the same Holy Spirit, reading the same Bible, but coming up with contradictory interpretations of the Bible. That cannot be the will of God. Nowhere does it say anyone was authorized to found a church or denomination apart from the Church built by Christ.
For any Protestant denomination to be “valid,” it would have to show 1) that the Catholic Church, founded by Christ failed and 2) show directly where Christ authorized anyone else to found a different Church apart from His. Also, if you can do 1, then we’re all wasting our time following Christ, because He failed, and therefore, is not God.
The Catholic Church is indefectibly holy, not because of the humans within it, but because it has Christ as its head and the Holy Spirit as its soul.
Jesus Christ had two natures when He was here on earth. One human and the other Divine. His human nature was like us in all things but sin. The Catholic Church, which St. Paul calls the Body of Christ, is similar. It has a human nature, composed of us humans, and a Divine nature, composed of Jesus and the Holy Spirit. The human nature of the Church, though, unlike Jesus, is sinful.
“If I wanted to detect counterfeit money; I’d study the real thing.”
But you fail to detect the counterfeit. You hold to it counterfeit instead.

Wow! Seems as if the RCs here are in a whole lot of trouble. If thats not a cult I dont know what is.
