Baltimore Auxiliary Bishop Denis J. Madden is enthused by the fruit that came from recent discussions between U.S. bishops and Irans religious leaders.

That declaration was the result of a March dialogue between a delegation from the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops and the Supreme Council of the Seminary Teachers of Qom, Irans center of religious scholarship, during a trip to the Middle Eastern country.
The meeting was an effort to promote greater understanding and peace between Americans and Iranians. The countries currently have no formal diplomatic relations.
Bishop Madden said Catholics in the Archdiocese of Baltimore should note the statement urges respect for religion in the public square.
Archbishop Lori is trying to do that day and night with religious freedom, said Bishop Madden, chairman of the USCCBs Committee on Ecumenical and Interreligious Affairs.
The U.S. delegation met with ayatollahs and scholars in Qom, a city about two hours southwest of Tehran.
