I’m not sure why you’re asking me about “mainstream” since you were the one to bring it up in reference to Protestatism. However, the sectarianism really becomes tedious after awhile and seldom accomplishes anything. I’m probably best off not to comment on these things at all.

And all of them embrace Sola Scriptura, right?

Yes. And the Bible is a part of Tradition, isn’t it?

Perhaps. I appreciate your effort as peace maker. The reality is that there is the Church Christ built and there are the Protestants. Those who PROTEST. Eventually, since all they have is Sola Scriptura, they embrace the World rather than the Word.

My hope is that you stay engaged. It is part of what I perceive as our obligation as Soldiers of Christ.

Something that recently came back to me about the Catholic Church and gender is how people in the church, including clergy, can take for religous names a name of the opposite gender. I became aware of that from reading the biography of Mother Angelica, which includes a Sister Joseph, a Sister Raphael, a Sister Joseph, and even a Father Mary. From having lived as a lesbian and having some gender “confusion” when I was a child, this speaks to me of a way to express such confusion which the Catholic Church allows.

“I will always take an opportunity to defend the Bible.”

Good for you!

The Bible post dated the Church by a good distance. You knew that, right?

The Catholic Church embraces, in fact WROTE, the entire Bible, including those parts many proddys leave out. You knew that, right?

Again, good for you in defending Holy Writ. Actually obeying that Writ matters as well, no?

“Jesus said to them again, ‘Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, even so I send you.’ And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and said to them, ‘Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained.’ “

What an interesting observation and something I had never considered. “Raphael”, of course, does not apply since Raphael is an angel and, as a member of the spiritual order without a body, would not be considered to have a gender. But the others ... Interesting.

The nuns as well as the priests would often use the word ‘Mary’ in their name.

for example Father John Mary

Nuns always had some reference to Mary in their name.

Sister Joseph Mary for example.

yep. my sister married into that group. they are now training their teen daughter in their black arts. she will someday be transformed into a lesbian preistess - and with her parents blessing as they blindly do not see any of this going on, somehow they have been deceived. And you can’t mention it to them, they just ignore any concern.

went to their “church” a few times - it was so obvious the male and female priests were queer but again, they couldn’t see the obvious.

No, they believe authority resides in the Bible and man’s reason (so when the two conflict, they tend to follow man’s reason). Their official statement is that they believe science and faith don’t conflict (so they’re anti-Genesis and pro-evolution) and they oppose teaching Creation and Intelligent Design in school.

How is that NOT Sola Scriptura as it is practiced in todays “mainstream”?

“It is the same justification that the pedophiles in the RCC have used to “normalize” their behavior.”

“And as a fellow Christian I ask you, what possible contribution can this comment make to the discussion? “

I agree that the first comment has nothing to do with the topic being discussed, as far as I am concerned.
Second, I do take issue with the repeated fallacy that the RCC has a pedophile problem. At least when discussing the problems of abusive priests who are sexual predators against minors, get your facts straight. The sexual abuse scandals [personally I would use a stronger word that scandal to describe such behavior of priests] - were overwhelmingly of the homosexual kind, being priests abusing minor boys in the age ranges of 12-18 approximately. That is not technically pedophilia. In order to define a problem and then try to resolve it so it does not happen again, one must use proper terminology.

It is akin to those who refuse to acknowledge that nearly all violent terrorists are Islamic males. Instead PC does not allow us to say so.

In the same way, I believe that the MSM deliberately uses the word ‘pedophile’ to describe the abusive priest. It is more PC to not use the word Homosexual to describe this scandal.

Here on FR we ought to know better.

Ephesians 6 says to “put on the whole armor of God,” and one piece of it is “the Sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God.” And even before the printing press and widespread literacy, there was study and memorization (I read once in a reputable source that in ancient Israel Jewish boys had to memorize the Pentateuch but haven’t seen that more widely reported) yet the Catholic Church has discouraged Catholics from using this weapon that the Lord gave us and commands us to use (for ourselves) against Satan. I’ll have to find the poll, but a Pew Poll a few years back found Catholics overall knew little of the Bible, and highly Catholic cities were uniformly the “least Biblically-minded” American cities in another poll. That wasn’t a conclusion the pollsters pointed out, but by looking at how Catholic the city was, you could predict the result. I believe Salt Lake City also didn’t score well, which suggests the Book of Mormon is their real book.

You are correct sir. The proper term for this tyoe of sexual predilection is Ephebophilia.

Ephebophilia is the primary or exclusive adult sexual interest in mid-to-late adolescents, generally ages 15 to 19.[1][2] The term was originally used in the late 19th to mid 20th century.[2] It is one of a number of sexual preferences across age groups subsumed under the technical term chronophilia. Ephebophilia strictly denotes the preference for mid-to-late adolescent sexual partners, not the mere presence of some level of sexual attraction. Some authors define ephebophilia as a sexual preference for pubescent and adolescent boys.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ephebophilia

Ephebophilia is THE NORM for almost all male homosexuals. They have an almost exclusive attraction to the young boys. The Twinks.
Twink is a gay slang term describing a young or young-looking man with a slender, ectomorph build, little or no body hair, and no facial hair.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Twink_(gay_slang)

So when you see all the male superstars with buff bodies and no body hair. That look came directly from the gay scene. Much like the saggy pants came from the prison scene for young blacks.

Yes. And the Bible is a part of Tradition, isn’t it?

If you define tradition as the words we have in the Old and New Testament...yes.

Beyond that...no.

Once you go beyond the Bible you have things such as the assumption of mary, her perpetual virginity, the papacy itself, the immaculate conception, indulgences, praying to mary, having relics, statues of the dead, etc. These are all man-made and go against Scripture itself.

But the RCC needs to have the ability to make up things to continue its false teachings.

It is interesting that the RCC claims to have written the Bible, yet they are the first ones to run away from its teachings and cling to tradition over the Bible.
