How many voters know that former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush is a Roman Catholic? Or that Texas Sen. Ted Cruz is a Southern Baptist, not a Latino Catholic? Or that Florida Sen. Marco Rubio worships at both a Catholic parish and an evangelical church?
More importantly, does it matter?

Virginia’s GOP US Senate candidate, Ed Gillespie, might fall into this category.
I would say not. I think they are saying he attended Calvinist institutions of higher learning but is now a Catholic.
This is not far-fetched. I haven't vetted the following quote, but it is attributed, in describing the Catholic social teaching principle of subsidiarity, to Pope Pius XI: "It is a fundamental principle of social philosophy, fixed and unchangeable, that one should not withdraw from individuals and commit to the community what they can accomplish by their own enterprise and/or industry."
It is those Unreformed Southern Catholics you need to keep your eyes on. But it has been my personal observation that if a group will play softball or eat with you at a picnic they for the most part aren’t too crazy.
But in politics a persons declared church group often have little to do with reality.

Nancy Pelosi, IS a Roman Catholic and in good standing, she took communion at the Vatican in the last year and does so at her church.
Jimmy Carter very publicly left the Southern Baptists many years ago, and has periodically written against them.
People who champion abortion, infanticide and sodomy are in a state of mortal sin, regardless of where they take communion.

someone should tell their Bishops and Priests and Popes, rather than allow them to serve as examples to the millions of Catholic immigrants flooding the nation over the years.
Treating them like American royalty sends a strong message to Catholic voters.
