The president of the Evangelical Theological Society, an association of 4,300 Protestant theologians, resigned this month because he has joined the Roman Catholic Church.
The May 5 announcement by Francis J. Beckwith, a tenured associate professor at Baptist-affiliated Baylor University in Waco, Tex., has left colleagues gasping for breath and commentators grasping for analogies.
One blogger likened it to Hulk Hogan's defection from the World Wrestling Federation to the rival World Championship Wrestling league.

Show me a list of “notable Catholics” leaving to become Evangelicals? You will be hard pressed to come up with a list. But a list of notable Protestants converting to Catholicism is as long as your arm. People who think and research gravitate to the true Church. Americans don’t, by and large, think.

You know Daniel, I’ve seen you post this same question over and over. I have to admit I have absolutely no idea what you’re saying. Maybe it is just me but I think that this question you pose to everyone is too full of clauses and presuppositions to be answered adequately. Quite frankly I don’t trust it. Perhaps there is too much deconstruction that must take place in order to answer it.
It could be me. As for my assurance of Truth well isn’t that obvious. It’s the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church which is free from error by the power of the Holy Spirit as promised by our Lord Jesus Christ.

Here's the thing. Was Luther right in that there were abuses in the Church that had to be fixed? Yes. I admit that freely. But what ended up happening? In order to get those things fixed to Luther's satisfaction he had to throw everything out. That wasn't right. As a result the discard of theological truth gave rise to philosophical ideals that puts us in this mess we have today. The elevation of self as the arbiter of what is scriptural or non-scriptural. In this construct the individual reins supreme. Sure protestants might say, "It's not me. It's Jesus, or the Bible." But is it really? At the end of the day does a protestant say, "Hey that sounds good. I'll go with that because it speaks to me."
So what do you have now? You've got billions of people out there determining Truth based on how it resonates with them. Is it any surprise that we now have a country whose operating principle is relativistic: your truth vs. my truth. Do we honestly think we're going to have a nation (or civilization)that will survive such a dynamic.
I know what people will say. Well we agree on a lot, so let's band together and make a stand and we can defeat this. But it's not enough to make common cause with protestants on things like abortion, homosexual marriage etc, if they're not willing to give up the notion that they are their own interpreters of Truth. That is the source of this. Honestly I think it'll take a civilizational collapse to rid ourselves of this notion. Only then might we get back to the idea of Truth not being relativistic. Consider: our operating principle in our lives today is to orient ourselves to what is preferred, not what is true.
Of course the Baptists pre-date the Church—haven’t you heard of John the Baptist? :)

I've seen a list of catholic priests who left posted on FR, but it was attacked as people who wanted to marry or were not "catechized correctly." By your standard, it would seem they are "notable."

Totally ignorant “catholics” that would have a hard time telling you the 7 sacraments. Let them go. I would much rather a small conservative church that one that believes in nothing except “me”, and that is the story of protestantism.

I don’t see the purpose of having multiple instruments of salvation, it would seem that one would do. But in case there is confusion, the true Church is distinguished from false churches by four marks; it is one, holy, catholic, and apostolic. Any decent Catholic catechism would explain precisely what those terms mean.

No; as that is merely those guy's opinions; NOT a TEACHING OF THE CHURCH.

And every Catholic will tell me that the RCC was formed in the 1st century; too, but they've not produced any PROOF of it.

Oh I don't know about that. The Anglicans are making their way back home to Rome. Amongst others. This is a good sign. Eventually there will come a time when protestantism can't divide itself any further. I mean how long can they hold out when protestants are discovering scriptural warrant for homosexual sodomy. It's just a matter of time.
