Catholic Word of the Day: Q, 05-16-14
CCDictionary ^ | 05-16-14 | Fr. John Hardon's Modern Catholic Dictionary

Featured Term (selected at random:

Q

The symbol of the hypothetical document used by the authors of the first and third Gospels, along with St. Mark, to produce the present Gospels according to Matthew and Luke. The existence of "Q" is based on the assumption that Mark and not Matthew was the first Gospel and that an unknown document (hence the German Quelle, source) must be supposed to account for similarities in Matthew and Luke that are not found in Mark. There are no grounds in historical tradition for the existence of such a source.

I saw a funny cartoon in the Investor’s Business Daily yesterday.

It had Pope Francis up there on the altar reading from the Holy Gospel according to Marx.

Do you suppose that Q might be a combination of written documents and oral tradition; and not only a source for Matthew and Luke, but also a source for Sacred Traditions of the Church?

Hard to say. I’m not a biblical scholar so don’t know much about it.
