Neither may deacons or non-ordained members of the faithful use gestures or actions which are proper to the same priest celebrant. It is a grave abuse for any member of the non-ordained faithful to "quasi preside" at the Mass while leaving only that minimal participation to the priest which is necessary to secure validity.

Liturgical abuses Ping!

I am a Baptist and I have seen this extended arm gesture in various churches and have always thought it a ploy for attention. As is the voices calling Amen or Preach It in the middle of a sermon. Especially remember one guy in a Methodist church I went to for several years who did all of the above, turns out he and the Sunday school teacher were involved in some extracurricular activities during church. Also went to AA for years till I decided to cut out the middleman and go to the source, the church. Never liked holding hands with drunks and druggies, you never know where they have been. If the last remark is unChristian I plead guilty.
