Souls are the life giving principle of all living things. It is what makes a body different than a corpse, a tree different than a log. Following Aristotle, there are three kinds of levels of souls. The first is the vegetive souls which pertains to plants. It has the faculties of growth, nutrition and reproduction. The animal soul, common to animals, adds to these faculties those of the senses and self motion. The rational soul, common only to man, adds the faculties of reason and free-will. The powers of the vegetative and animal souls, being tied to the activity of the body, cease with death and are thus not immortal. Reason and free will of the rational soul, not being bodily functions, survive after the death which is but the separation of the soul from the body. And it is only the rational soul of man which has the power to love or to sin. It is the only one capable of redemption by God and union with Him in eternal life.

Ignore Aristotle just as he ignores the scriptures...What an animal is lacking is a spirit...Humans have a spirit...Animals do not...Animals will not go to heaven...
