I don’t know if you intended a sarc tag or not, but you’re right.

Matt 5:29, Luke 14:26, Matt 11:23, and of course the passage in Romans you mentioned previously (Rom 3:23)

All examples of hyperbole in Scripture to make a point specifically about sin and judgement. And that’s just that topic.

There is plenty more hyperbole about other things in Scripture, all to make their points (because that was a popular literary device at the time and place, to use hyperbole to drive home an important point). But the audience knew the writer never intended such passages to be taken literally, anytime hyperbole is (was) used.

But we don’t have that context anymore if we divorce ourselves from Tradition and go off reading the Bible “for ourselves”. But yeah, it’s better than being “told what to believe” by the Church.

Matt 5:29, Luke 14:26, Matt 11:23,

I don't see much hyperbole in the first Matt passage, it shows the seriousness of sin. The Luke passage is hard only for the use of hate. The last Matt is going to happen just like Jesus said.
