An emblem of St. Mark, who wrote especially of the royal dignity of Christ, beginning his Gospel with the account of St. John the Baptist, "the voice of one crying in the wilderness." St. Mark is also the writer of excellence about the Resurrection of Christ, traditionally symbolized by the lion.
