Matthew 16:19:

And I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed[d] in heaven.”

Vatican 1:

Therefore,
faithfully adhering to the tradition received from the beginning of the christian faith,
to the glory of God our saviour,
for the exaltation of the catholic religion and
for the salvation of the christian people,
with the approval of the sacred council,
we teach and define as a divinely revealed dogma that
when the Roman pontiff speaks EX CATHEDRA,
that is, when,
in the exercise of his office as shepherd and teacher of all Christians,
in virtue of his supreme apostolic authority,
he defines a doctrine concerning faith or morals to be held by the whole church,
he possesses,
by the divine assistance promised to him in blessed Peter,
that infallibility which the divine Redeemer willed his church to enjoy in defining doctrine concerning faith or morals.
Therefore, such definitions of the Roman pontiff are of themselves, and not by the consent of the church, irreformable.

Petra, petros, semantics makes a difference.

“Thou art Peter (petros-stone, clast), and upon this rock (Petra) I (Christ) will build my (congregation), and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.”

In my reading of this passage, I envision the Lord speaking to Peter after he confessed that Jesus was the Christ, ( given by the Holy Spirit) that He described Peter as a stone, and then referring to himself ( upon THIS Petra, bedrock, living rock, concept of rock, not “THAT rock), He would build HIS church.....

Either the translators through the ages got it wrong, or the Lord meant to identify Himself as the ROCK of the Church. Besides, a few moments later, Jesus rebukes Peter as “satan”..... and we all know how the events pertaining to Peter’s fidelity played out during the last day of the Lord’s passion went. he Lord restored him after His resurrection, mercifully.

Furthermore, the Lord instructed all of His disciples, not just Peter, to “forgive men their trespasses” (Matt. 6:14, 15).

You can build your church on Peter (a stone) but as for me, I will look heavenly to the Lord via His Holy Spirit for my foundation (Petra).

We have more in common that not, I hope, in that we confess Jesus is God, and there is no other way to the Father but by Him, and that His once for all sacrifice for our sins is final payment to a Just God, who then freely and legally forgives us and our faith in that work seals us to God an no man ( or anything) can remove from us the new status of saved and sealed eternally! His status before God the Father is our Status ( As He is,(glorified, sinless perfect) so are we, in this world. I John 4:17)
Best to you.
