Shouldn't Bible-believing church leaders be speaking up on "sainthood"? (vanity)

Posted on 04/27/2014 3:47:28 PM PDT by Faith Presses On

With it so much in the news right now that the Catholic Church is making two former Popes "saints." shouldn't Bible-believing Christians, and those in leadership in particular, be pointing out the Bible truth on who is a saint is? The media won't do this themselves, and the Catholic use of "saint" has caused a lot of ignorance on this most important matter.

your own question gives the answer:

Acts 16:29 Then he called for a light, and sprang in, and came trembling, and fell down before Paul and Silas,
Acts 16:30 And brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved?
Acts 16:31 And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.
Acts 16:32 And they spake unto him the word of the Lord, and to all that were in his house.
Acts 16:33 And he took them the same hour of the night, and washed [their] stripes; and was baptized, he and all his, straightway.

it isn’t age, it is BELIEF

Can a month old infant believe anything?

Should you trust a 4 year old when they say they believe something that they have no idea happened?

If a small child can express a belief and back it up with what they were taught...then they believe

but a baby...that is clearly not Biblical, nor is some sort of grace applied to anyone who is baptised, nor is salvation through baptism in any manner

“That is trying to claim their soul for eternity.”

Not until eternity, just until your die. When you die, you go to hell.

Catholicism is a religion based on "being respecters of persons. God does no such thing."

The bible contains many instances of respectable persons. It is okay to notice respectable persons? Or are we to behave like troglodytes and spit tobacco juice on each others boots to signify our lack or respect?

"FWIW, the Catholic church has spent lots of time trying to impose its beliefs on others. Non-Catholics are told constantly that they must become Catholic to get to heaven, that in heaven everyone will be Catholic. And then there’s that pesky Inquisition thing."

SO has every religion. There are many Protestant sects that declare Catholics are not going to heaven (usually phrased along the lines of "the RCC does not have a gospel sufficient to save your soul"). Either way, Catholic dogma allows that non-Catholics can be saved; fact checking is our friend. And that pesky inquisition...I suppose you realize that in that time it was illegal to be Catholic in many countries, and said countries had their own secret police style organizations to combat popery? Nobody, including Catholics, had a monopoly on persecuting people of differing faith, despite what some would have us believe.

"Nonsense. The RCC did not write the OT nor did it write the NT as the Catholic church wasn't around for a few hundred years."

That insight regarding the old testament is of course a lightning revelation to us. We had all supposed that Jesuits wrote the old testament. Regarding the NT and the Church "not being around for a few hundred years," that is simply not true. There is a common idea is some circles that there was a period of "early-church" which was totally different from the "false Roman church" that popped up later. Sadly for some, this is simply bullocks. Its certainly a topic worth researching for those who care to know the truth. Perhaps I'll even write a wee piece on it sometime.

"Wow. How condescending of them to rub elbows with the unwashed."

How a comment can turn the idea that non-Catholics can be saved into such a negative statement is almost applause-worthy.

"LOL!!! It’s *hate* to point out the truth? Are you liberal?"

And of course, somebody finding comments like the one above somewhat offensive draws the inevitable question "are you liberal"...At the risk of being labeled an inquisitor, I ask the question in return, are YOU a liberal?

"Roman Catholicism is a religion of control freaks. They will NEVER let you go."

More of that charming negativism. Yup, we're all control freaks. Little-known fact, we all sort our alphabet soup and arrange our vestments in harmony with the color wheel.

"Not a chance. The word *Catholic* does not even appear in Scripture."

Uh, yes it does. I suppose you meant the word Catholic does not appear in reference to the body of believers (although it technically does). But since its synonyms do, however, this is a bit of a moot point.

“The Catholic Church doesn’t “make” anyone a saint, she only recognizes what God has done, testifies to it, and celebrates it.”

Nonsense.

There is scriptural basis for “the saints”, in scripture, which requires nothing that the Roman Catholic Church does to name, officially, saints by Roman Catholic institutional standards those it consecrates as “saints”, officially. That process “makes” saints by Roman Catholic institutional practices. That is not something G-d “recognizes” just something the Roman Catholic Church recognizes; in spite of the fact that nothing the Roman Catholic Church or any Church does will “recognize” a true saint in G-d’s eyes as ONLY G-d knows who in fact such persons truly are. The rest is institutional arrogance.

“It is making this site unreadable.”

Really? No exaggeration here.

I’m sure you could accurately guess the content of this thread before you clicked on it. This is supposed to be a forum where we can express our opinions, is it not? If being exposed to opinions you don’t like bothers you, just avoid these threads.

If I suffered from that, I would rarely click on a thread. Not everyone will go along with what “I know to be right”.

Last summer somebody had to ping JimRob to a thread, and he told the anti-Catholics to knock it off. I really wish they would create their own site to discuss their issues instead of perverting FR.

Oh? Do Catholics own the RF or FR?

Posting something outside of Catholicism is *perverting FR*?

I didn't know FR was a mouthpiece for Catholicism. I thought it was a conservative, political forum.

The Church today simply confirmed what I had thought of these two Popes for a number of yearsl that they are SAINTS.

In truth, we are all struggling sinners who are trying to live out our calling by God to holiness.

Speak for yourself.

Some of us are saints through faith in Christ who still struggle with the flesh.

Born again believers are already righteous in God's eyes. Even when we sin, He chooses to not hold that sin to our account.

Look, I am just being honest.

Until I am home with God, I would feel unconfortable being called a little s saint.

It is a conservative political forum. I never stated otherwise, and the mouthpiece of FR spoke. I also never stated that anything other than Catholicism is perverting FR, that is simply you perverting my words. The official mouthpiece doesn’t like Catholic bashing. His site, his rules. I’ll pray for you.
