Just curious, but I (as a non-Catholic Christian) just want to ask any Catholic friends on here, if you at times personally (or even in a Mass/Church setting) ever use ANY Protestant made media that glorify Jesus (and by extension his apostles and the Old Testament saints)?
Do you ever listen to "Christian" music that was created by evangelical Christians, and played on such radio networks suck as K-LOVE, or ever read/watch any sermons by evangelists/pastors such as Bill Graham (and family), John Piper, etc..
Do you ever use Protestant produced Bible-studies?
I know that for myself, I HAVE Obviously watched such classic Christian movies such as Jesus of Nazareth, and The Passion (which were obviously Catholic produced films), and have caught your ETWN network from time to time (though I don't agree with the theology sometimes).

I’m Catholic, and certainly not trying to insult Catholics.
I’m trying to figure out if the other member really believes only ‘saved’ Christians get salvation.
Um you’ve read my opinions wrong if you interpret the intention of this thread as that purpose.
that’s what we call abstinence - abstain from eating meat on Fridays.
And I’m sure the gumbo and crawdaddys the were forced to eat just killed them. LOL
Fasting is a whole ‘nother kettle of fish - no fun.

We use only Catholic material. I listen to Catholic Radio and read Catholic books. Why would I want to know anything else?
I don’t have TV, but many Catholics watch only EWTN.

Well I have read a couple of responses on this thread, and I will say that the person who previously responded to your question about an aboriginal in the jungle is correct, and Jesus (receiving Him) and being saved by merely accepting His payment for our sins (Eph 2:8-9 “For by Grace you have been saved through faith”).
This is the only way, if one were to Believe the Bible. And yes it is Christian love to accept and love everyone (inspite of our sins) no matter what Church a person decides, perhaps this thread is a way for God to nudge you to return to a Bible Believing Church, Friend???

No I understand how you were raised and the uncomfortable position it put your family in. Was not an issue growing up with my family, neighborhood or friends. Other than the two Jewish families everyone was Catholic. Not everyone was no meat on Fridays 365 but my family was. Yet no one ever served meat on Fridays to my family because they knew.
Times have changed and we have to admit the majority of Catholics today do not observe no meats Fridays but during Lent. And then there are varying degrees of the adherents. More Americans know of Jewish and Muslim dietary restrictions than Catholic ones. And parents and schools are mindful of food allergies etc. Why I am also surprised your hosts did not at least ask about food allergies. To boot half of the friends were Catholic! In general friendly conversations I would gather faiths come up and religious observances. You being offered pepperoni pizza is akin to you serving wine or beer to a Baptist.
I guess my surprise is given your overt testimony of your faith someone should have figured this out or maybe these are new acquaintances.
One of the historical issues that is little spoken of is that in the first five centuries the Bible was in almost 200 languages. The translations were so prolific they became a source of heretical beliefs and schism due to the poor translations and contextural issues with the various languages.
The Latin Vulgate was done to standardize and prevent problems, not to “take the bible from from the common folk” because few read and almost no one could afford a hand scribed bible — there were no printing presses.
As printing and distribution the concept of the bible in the local language was an easily foreseen blow up as any change prompts controversy with an issue this profound. The KJV came from such controversy, meant to settle earlier problems with other english translations.
we are in the middle of nowhere between two little towns but 1/2 hour to any of four mid-size towns.
A very strong Catholic community going back to the 1840s when settled by the Irish farmers.
But the protestant in this area are decidedly anti-Catholic largely about what they think Catholics believe - not what we actually believe.
things like worshiping Mary - they are amazed when we show them in black and white that to worship Mary is to automatically excommunicate yourself from the Catholic Church.

You are right. Nothing other than candles and the vessels for Mass can be placed on the altar.
Flowers may be in front of the altar, but not ON it.

The first mass produced printed book was the Bible, a version based on the Latin edition from about 380 AD.. The Bible was printed at Mainz, Germany by Johannes Gutenberg from 1452 -1455..
