If a Protestant looking into the claims of Catholicism were to ask me, “What one book should I read, where I can find a quick answer to any question I have?” I would tell him to read Devin Rose’s new book The Protestant’s Dilemma. I would also recommend this book to Protestant apologists, even those of many years, well-skilled in polemics. It will remind them of the heavy burden of proof they face, and the weakness of their position on point after point. The truth may set them free and bring them home too. (It has happened.)
All this may seem like overstatement — the obligatory praise from one Catholic blogger to another. But it is not.
Consider first the range of issues this book takes up. There are thirty-six chapters, each one on a different topic, from the papacy to sola scriptura, from the canon of the Bible to Purgatory, from confession to Eucharist to infant baptism. If something about the Catholic Church troubles you, this book has the answer. If you think you have found the point on which Catholicism fails, this book will show you why it is one more point upon which Protestantism fails.
Consider also the brevity. The book is just over 200 pages long, which means that Mr. Rose’s answers get to the root of the question without a knot of academic detail. It is harder to do than it might seem. This is the book of a man who has spent a long time studying the questions that divide Protestants and Catholics, and who knows how to present his case in a way that is easy for anyone to understand. At the same time, the book is useful for the professional apologist, for it recalls his mind to the basics.

sure...readers digest writes a book, you buy it. They do include items from other books, or in some cases a condensed version. However, the book that you bought was written by readers digest. They put pen to paper and gave you a product to enjoy, some of the content was theirs and some, which they acknowledge, was provided to them for them to publish....
that wasn't the question...the question had to do with martyrdom, I merely stated that if you die in defending the christian faith, your own misconduct will be overlooked and you will be saved.
nope, the followers of Crist, whiule certainly Christians, were referred to as Catholic as early as the year 100. For the first 1,500 years of Christianity, the christians were referred to as Catholic....they had Vatican councils in the 200's and 300's.

the church doesn't forbid them to marry, they take a voluntary vow of celibacy and chastity. The church merely requires them to honor that vow......want to marry, don't take the vow. Nuns and priests who leave the ministry are allowed to renounce those vows and marry and procreate as they desire!!
why not?? if as you say, Christ's death covered all sin. Therefore, you are obviously not responsible for your actions. I merely maintain that while Christ did indeed die for the sins of mankind, and give us the gift of redemption....we are certainly free to reject His gift and that's exactly what those who continue to willingly commit sins are doing.
did you forget that He instructed them to go forth and teach ALL NATIONS ? Catholic means just that, universal, and while He didn't use the word, they soon called themselves Catholic.

I was taught by the Catholic Church that Christ was God.....Father, Son, Holy Spirit....three persons, one God, remember now??? Why would Christ be a mediator????....He's the real thing!!

no....and thanks for acknowledging that Peter set up the original church. The church, however, is forced to rely on mere mortals to continue their existance. There are bad eggs in every group, Priests, popes, ministers, teachers, parents....politicians even!. Yes there have been bad Popes, but bad or not, they NEVER ERRED IN MATTERS OF FAITH AND MORALS, as they were promised by Christ.

Catholic follow noone except Christ....they lead in all matters Christian, and have for 2,014 years!
Then one has to question if one really accepted Christ and has chosen to follow Him.
I notice they were called Christians at Antioch.....not catholic.
