A former gay-porn actor who says his Catholic faith saved him from a world of pornography, homosexuality and the occult is scheduled to make a presentation today in Santa Rosa to a religious group called Courage, an apostolate of the Catholic Church that ministers to people with same-sex attractions.
The program, which will be held at the Faith Room of the Parish Life Center at St. Eugene's Cathedral, will feature Joseph Sciambra, an author and missionary who has said, among other things, that gay identity is tantamount to imprisonment of the soul within the disorder and that anal sex releases into the world these rare demonic entities.
The planned presentation has raised concerns among some local Catholics that the Santa Rosa diocese is sanctioning religious tactics that harken back to the days of reparative therapy, aimed at changing people's sexual orientation from homosexual to heterosexual.
The presentation comes amid a focus by Santa Rosa Bishop Robert Vasa on traditional Catholic teachings about homosexuality, birth control and abortion.
Vasa said Thursday that Catholic doctrine is clear on one point: homosexual behavior is sinful.
The proper ordering of the sexual faculty is toward procreation, he said.
Whenever people use the sexual faculty in ways that are not aligned with this order, even in a vague kind of way, then we would say it's not properly ordered, it's out of order.

In a truly free society, the Bishop should be able to speak freely and the guest speaker speak freely without being intimidated into silence by those who disagree.
A real example - stop this guy, we can’t permit a real example of Mercy and Faith!!!!
Vasa said Thursday that Catholic doctrine is clear on one point: homosexual behavior is sinful. Those in charge at the University of Notre Dame need to be reminded of this as well: http://www.fightingirishthomas.com/2014/03/et-tu-matthew-notre-dames-double-fault.html
It’s ridiculous. It would be considered cruel and irresponsible to withhold treatment from a person suffering almost any other mental disorder, but when the mental illness involves sexuality, suddenly it is a thing to be celebrated.
Kudos to this guy for shining the light on sexually focused mental illness.
Just like Anne Heche!
Oh wait..didn't she turn hetero, get married and have a kid?
ASIDE FROM HER! IT'S IN THE GENES! BORN THIS WAY!
Oh rats...didn't Mrs. Bill DeBlasio used to be a Lesbian, then married him and had two kids?
SO WHAT? WHAT ARE YOU TRYING TO SAY YOU HATER?!?
Homosexuals will simply claim that they are, or were, bisexual. See? It’s all so easy.
It’s the Catholic Church, not some incorporated government entity making contractual policies. Why doesn’t it just say to all those Catholics who disagree, that they are free to leave and find a Church they can support?
“Why doesnt it just say to all those Catholics who disagree, that they are free to leave and find a Church they can support?”
Excellent question and as a Protestant(PCA variety) I completely agree with it. If for example liberal Presbyterians try to take over my denomination, I would happily remind them of a place they go to instead(PCUSA) where they could get their liberalism nonstop. Of course such a solution makes way too much sense for liberals(both Roman Catholic and Protestant alike) to understand.
Maybe Vasa should be answering the questions posed to Dolan and Pope Francis on homosexuality.
Yeah, postdictions sound nice. Sort of like saying you predicted hurricane Sandy years ago, and you’re saying it two days after it happened. But really, you can bring up the name Anne Heche, without mentioning any other details, and seeing if anyone even knows who you’re talking about.
It’s not about about freedom of religion, if it was, people would found their own, like people chose to found Seventh Day Adventists, mormonism, Society of Friends, etc. This is not about that, this is about a move to push to garner public support to eventually annihilate select organized religion.
