Our pastor had a very interesting homily on salt at today’s Mass. He said salt was used during the time of Jesus in a way that I had never heard before.

He said it was used as a source of heat. Children would gather camel and donkey dung and form it into patties. The patty would be put on a block of ice, and the chemical reaction would create heat that would be used to cook food. After being used for cooking, the patties would be placed on the ground and used as a walking path.
