It's February 7th, So read Proverbs 7
Bible NKJV | 900 BC | Solomon

Posted on 02/07/2014 10:17:00 AM PST by OneVike

The purpose of Writing the book of Proverbs by Solomon is to reveal the mind of God in matters high and lofty and in common, ordinary, everyday situations. It appears that no topic escaped King Solomon's attention. Matters pertaining to personal conduct, sexual relations, business, wealth, charity, ambition, discipline, debt, child-rearing, character, alcohol, politics, revenge, and Godliness are among the many topics covered in this rich collection of wise sayings.

Without wisdom, knowledge is nothing more than an accumulation of raw facts, influenced by emotional feelings. Many highly educated people are in positions of power in the United States, but very few of those educated leaders have the wisdom needed to rule properly.

One can say that they have been educated well beyond their intelligence. A cursory look at the court system will prove my point that knowledge without wisdom will only lead to an immoral society that eventually crumbles from within. Judges are supposed to be above the fray, and immovable to emotions. Instead, the vast majority of judges today are Godless individuals who are vacant of wisdom. So their rulings are totally based upon emotional feelings.

We the people are to blame, because we ignored God's guidance in appointing our leaders. Instead of putting leaders full wisdom in power, we instead chose those who would scratch our itchy ears to lead us.

Along with my daily routine of reading the Bible, I try to read through the book of Proverbs once a Month. It'is an easy task when you consider there are 31 Proverbs. So all you need to know is what day of the Month it is. Today is the 7th, so Proverb 7 should be read. In the Months that have less than 31 days, I just double so I can begin the next month with Proverb 1 on the first again.

Proverb 7 (NKJV)

The Wiles of a Harlot

01 My son, keep my words,
00 And treasure my commands within you.
02 Keep my commands and live,
00 And my law as the apple of your eye.
03 Bind them on your fingers;
00 Write them on the tablet of your heart.
04 Say to wisdom, "You are my sister,"
00 And call understanding your nearest kin,
05 That they may keep you from the immoral woman,
00 From the seductress who flatters with her words.

The Crafty Harlot

06 For at the window of my house
00 I looked through my lattice,
07 And saw among the simple,
00 I perceived among the youths,
00 A young man devoid of understanding,
08 Passing along the street near her corner;
00 And he took the path to her house
09 In the twilight, in the evening, 00 In the black and dark night.
10 And there a woman met him,
00 With the attire of a harlot, and a crafty heart.
11 She was loud and rebellious,
00 Her feet would not stay at home.
12 At times she was outside, at times in the open square,
00 Lurking at every corner.
13 So she caught him and kissed him;
00 With an impudent face she said to him:
14 "I have peace offerings with me;
00 Today I have paid my vows.
15 So I came out to meet you,
00 Diligently to seek your face,
00 And I have found you.
16 I have spread my bed with tapestry,
00 Colored coverings of Egyptian linen.
17 I have perfumed my bed
00 With myrrh, aloes, and cinnamon.
18 Come, let us take our fill of love until morning;
00 Let us delight ourselves with love.
19 For my husband is not at home;
00 He has gone on a long journey;
20 He has taken a bag of money with him,
00 And will come home on the appointed day."

21 With her enticing speech she caused him to yield,
00 With her flattering lips she seduced him.
22 Immediately he went after her, as an ox goes to the slaughter,
00 Or as a fool to the correction of the stocks,
23 Till an arrow struck his liver.
00 As a bird hastens to the snare,
00 He did not know it would cost his life.

24 Now therefore, listen to me, my children;
00 Pay attention to the words of my mouth:
25 Do not let your heart turn aside to her ways,
00 Do not stray into her paths;
26 For she has cast down many wounded,
00 And all who were slain by her were strong men.
27 Her house is the way to hell,
00 Descending to the chambers of death.

So many lessons can be taught from this proverb on fornication and adultery. They are lessons both men and women can learn. Especially in today's society where women have been liberated from past societal limits so that they too can be as crass and discussing in their behavior as men have been for ages.

Been trying to do this with my kids at dinner - Proverbs with PaPa. Has been a little hit and miss with our schedule, but leads to good conversation.

“OOOOO..K? And your point?”

Maybe he means that 2 times Feb 7th, or today, the day of the Harlot, = Feb 14th, which is Valentine’s Day?

How many wives and concubines did Solomon have?

Interesting.

Never thought of it.

My wife told me years ago to not spend a dime one flowers or candy for valentines day.

She told me that if I want to get somewhere I need to spend the day with her. Not in the same house but elsewhere.

So February 14 is the day I turn off the world and turn on the charm as much a a man can with a woman he has been with for 26 years.

Way too many.

He back slid after writing the Proverbs.

Like all Kings, he married the daughters of other Kings to keep the piece, but they swayed his heart from God and led him to worship idols.

God warned him through the warnings to Moses, but Solomon became week and allowed his foreign wives to turn him from God.

It’s believed he returned in his old age, and that is when he wrote the book of Ecclesiastics, which is Wisdom from man’s view, whereas Proverbs is wisdom from God’s view.

There are so many here on FR who will tell you that the book of Proverbs carry’s no weight because of the New Covenant.

I here often from them when I quote that book.

Sadly you are correct.

However you and I both know that they would be wrong, since Christ quoted the Old testament quite often.

After all, God is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow. He never changes, and never, ever changes His mind.

Since Christ is one third of the Trinity, He and God are one in the same.

So why would He claim all the truths he told the Patriarchs, Prophets, and kings of no longer pertinent?

"However you and I both know that they would be wrong.."

Yes we know that, but then Proverbs tells us:

"A prudent person foresees danger and takes precautions. The simpleton goes blindly on and suffers the consequences."
Proverbs 22:3

He back slid after writing the Proverbs.

We've all taken a step back from time to time. God is amazing in how he uses flawed people to carry out his will.

Yes we have, sometimes I feel as if I don’t deserve forgiveness, but then I realize what He did to ensure that forgiveness that I realize how much I have to forgive others for trespassing upon me.
