'Children Belong to All of Us,' Common Core Promoter Says; Opponents Are 'Tiny Minority'

"The children belong to all of us," Paul Reville, an education professor at Harvard and former Massachusetts secretary of Education, said Friday in explaining why states should adopt the Common Core State Standards Initiative.
"What we're doing at the national level ... is what a lot of our states thought made sense individually. Why should some towns in cities or states have no standards or low standards and others have extremely high standards when the children belong to all of us and would move. And the same logic applies to the nation," he said, making the case for national standards.
His comment regarding children is similar to a controversial statement by MSNBC host Melissa Harris-Perry in April. In an ad for MSNBC, she said, "We have to break through our kind of private idea that kids belong to their parents, or kids belong to their families, and recognize that kids belong to whole communities."
Reville was a panelist for an event hosted by the Center for American Progress, a liberal think tank, and the National Center on Time & Learning in Washington, D.C., introducing a new CAP report, "Redesigning and Expand

If Bill Gates feels so strongly about this why didnt he and his wife have children or at least adopt them?I seem to remember a fellow, back in the 1830's that had a BUNCH of wives - but hardly ANY children.
I wonder why HE didn't adopt.

Wonder how many never made into the world? We have some rough figures, for THIS country: 55,000,000 or so have died before birth.
I'd like to thank the United States Government for protecting me and my kind.
You see, 40 years ago, my odds of making it out of the egg, alive, were very poor; about 80% of us died.
But a lady discovered our plight and wrote a book that addressed our problem,
What I find strange is that the same government passed a law the very next year that allowed for killing
of unborn, and apparently unwanted, humans. Little ones still nestled safely in their Mother's womb.
Around 25% of them are dying before birth - on average nearly 3,300 - every day of the year.
I hear that by now, somewhere around 55 MILLION of them have perished.
Wouldn't that kind of mess up the humans plans for growth, and welfare, and
retirement?
Strange birds; these Homo Sapiens. Perhaps they'll come to their senses
before they are ALL dead!

Thank you I never hear about them and every time I read a bio it was never mention.
After being named one of
Good Housekeeping's "50 Most Eligible Bachelors" in 1985,
[70] Gates married
Melinda French on January 1, 1994.
They have three children: daughters Jennifer Katharine (b. 1996) and Phoebe Adele (b. 2002), and son Rory John (b. 1999). The family resides in
the Gates's home, an
earth-sheltered house in the side of a hill overlooking
Lake Washington in Medina. According to
King County public records, as of 2006 the total assessed value of the property (land and house) is $125 million, and the annual property tax is $991,000.

So liberals who have shunned parenthood or are gay want our children? No way. The best thing conservatives can do is have large families and raise them right.
