I was raised Catholic, served as an altar boy for 6 years when the Mass was only delivered in Latin. (can still recite the "Sucipiot"...and know God's phone number...Et Cum Spiri two two oh) You won't get that joke if you're not relatively old.

I'm agnostic now. I just don't know.

Do you live anywhere near a Catholic Church? You should stop in, just sit in the back, no need to say anything to anyone --- except maybe -- "Uh, God? Are you there? Please let me know. It's important."

People prayed for me, though I was a dolt when I was younger. (Now??) :o) But I opened the door just a little bit, and it seems He barged through!!

Would you try something, please?

Give this book a fair trial:

Mere Christianity

Lewis is a genial, sane voice amidst all the noise.

And he's awfully Catholic, for a Belfast Church of Ireland man.

You should know, most things are temporal. They come and go: governments, leaders, fads, trends, beliefs, nations. The Catholic Church does not come and go. It has been here since the beginning, for almost 2,000 years, the oldest sustainable institution on earth. All else is transitory and may not be here a hundred, two hundred, a thousand years from now. “...the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.” It has survived heresies, corrupt popes, emperors, wickedness, persecutions, Nazis, you name it, yet it is still standing. Even more importantly, Christianity has survived, and will endure. Little else does.

No one knows, that's why it is called Faith.

You either believe or not, when you finally know, the die has been cast.

As a one time Alter boy, and still a believer, I'll say a prayer for your travels on the road back.

I think one of the problems with religion is people insist you believe like they do and many have no clue. The idea of Salvation is to have a PERSONAL relationship with God. He loves you and gave His life to save you from hell. To think that being Catholic has something to do with this is just wrong. There are many Catholics that are saved and love God, but just as many love the Catholic Church and wouldn't recognize God if he was in the pew next to them. All the rituals and robes with Latin and incense has nothing to do with your personal walk with the One that loves you. You should be in a church, but that church should be the one that you get closest to God with.

If you are interested in Spiritual things, pray to Him and He will reveal Himself to you in an unmistakable way. The problem with agnostics and atheists is they are really "dead" spiritually and can't hear God as he is Spirit. The only prayer He can hear from you is the prayer calling Him into your life. If you pray to win the lottery or save your sick child, He can't hear you unless you are alive to Him. Spending 6 years as an alter boy listening to Latin has nothing to do with building a relationship with God. You get the relationship, then serve Him willingly.

You were baptized a Catholic and are still a Catholic, just not a practicing one. I will pray for you.

I recommend “A Father Who Keeps His Promises” by Scott Hahn.

God bless.

Two things quickly: That the universe is mathematical based on fundamental concepts, and that DNA has a recently discovered “layered” structure that seems more difficult to explain without a creator.
