I. FOR WHAT END ARE WE ON THIS EARTH?
II. HOW ARE WE TO ATTAIN TO ETERNAL HAPPINESS?
III. CAN WE ATTAIN PERFECT HAPPINESS ON EARTH?
I. THE KNOWLEDGE OF GOD.
II. DIVINE REVELATION.
III. THE PREACHING OF THE GOSPEL.
IV. HOLY SCRIPTURE AND TRADITION
V. THE CHRISTIAN FAITH.
whatever ...
**7. Faith alone is not sufficient for salvation.
It must be a living faith; that is, we must add to it good
works and must be ready to confess it openly.**
Amen!
The rest of that quote:
**He who wilfully disbelieves a single doctrine of the Catholic
Church has no true faith, for he who receives some of the words
of Christ and rejects others, does not really believe that Jesus
Christ is the Son of God and that He guides the Catholic
Church.**
Right, because our works make up for the deficit in Christ's work.
No, we just need faith, because our faith makes up for the deficit in Christ’s faith.
Can you give me a specific definition of ‘good works’? Who decides what’s a ‘good work’ and what’s not?
**He who wilfully disbelieves a single doctrine of the Catholic Church has no true faith, for he who receives some of the words of Christ and rejects others, does not really believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and that He guides the Catholic Church.** utter drivel
How would you define it?
Thanks for making my point.
That it can’t be defined, or that you can’t define it or I can’t or.. ?
What is Holy Scripture describing when it uses the term?
My view on the subject is that the two can’t be separated.
Christ’s salvatory acts have no deficit, they are a completed work. Works righteousness, just like the heathen who perform for their idols.
So there’s only a faith deficit?
Only if you fail to believe God. I think those who try and add their good works as an aid to salvation have a faith deficit. Good works flow from faith but they add nothing to Christ’s sacrifice.
>>”Only if you fail to believe God.”
Then your argument fails logically. There’s a faith deficit of Christ.
I don’t mean to be contentious, just making a point that I think you’d agree with.
Faith and works are inseparable. Those that debate one versus the other are on a fool’s errand.
So the Catholic and Protestant views on this are really not different.
Sorry I could have been clearer. Should have said:
There’s NOT a faith deficit of Christ any more than there’s a works deficit..
But they are, from the article:
we must add to it good works and must be ready to confess it openly.
No, we add nothing to faith, it is a gift, as are the works that proceed from it. "The will and to do." The 'we must do' isn't something we can do apart from the direction of the Holy Spirit. It isn't through the will of man that he does acceptable works but of God, lest we boast of them.
I will pray for you.
Ever hear of the Beatitudes that Christ taught? It’s all about good works.
