It was an objective statement and I’ll let you draw whatever conclusions you will from it since I never discuss myself.

Good idea!

No need to open your mind to DOUBT.

The New World Translation was produced by the New World Bible Translation Committee, formed in 1947.

Makes ME wonder WHY the KJV was good enough for them for so many years...

“The New World Bible translation committee had no known translators with recognized degrees in Greek or Hebrew exegesis or translation...

HMMMmm...

THIS sure sounds familiar!

In conclusion let us summarize this grand key, these “Fourteen Fundamentals in Following the Prophet”, for our salvation depends on them.

1. The prophet is the only man who speaks for the Lord in everything.
2. The living prophet is more vital to us than the standard works.
3. The living prophet is more important to us than a dead prophet.
4. The prophet will never lead the church astray.
5. The prophet is not required to have any particular earthly training or credentials to speak on any subject or act on any matter at any time.
6. The prophet does not have to say “Thus Saith the Lord,” to give us scripture.
7. The prophet tells us what we need to know, not always what we want to know.
8. The prophet is not limited by men’s reasoning.
9. The prophet can receive revelation on any matter, temporal or spiritual.
10. The prophet may advise on civic matters.
11. The two groups who have the greatest difficulty in following the prophet are the proud who are learned and the proud who are rich.
12. The prophet will not necessarily be popular with the world or the worldly.
13. The prophet and his counselors make up the First Presidency—the highest quorum in the Church.
14. The prophet and the presidency—the living prophet and the First Presidency—follow them and be blessed—reject them and suffer.

I testify that these fourteen fundamentals in following the living prophet are true. If we want to know how well we stand with the Lord then let us ask ourselves how well we stand with His mortal captain—how close do our lives harmonize with the Lord’s anointed—the living Prophet—President of the Church, and with the Quorum of the First Presidency.

Ezra Taft Benson

Great analysis and I agree. I cringed when I read some of those posts. There are others on these threads that do the same thing.

Do you know the names or schooling of any of the translators of the LXX? Of the AV? Do you know any of the names of the those called “Masoretes?”

I’ll wait while you search and then you can you can explain how it affects the merits of these three great works.

Meanwhile I’ll look at the quality of the work produced by the unnamed NWT translation committee as I do with all the Catholic, Jewish, Baptist, etc. Bibles I read quote.

I don’t use sarcasm tags, in their stead I rely upon the intelligence of the reader to understand and appreciate sarcasm when they see it.

Any further explanation needed?

***Do you know the names or schooling of any of the translators of the LXX? Of the AV?****

According to THE LETTER OF ARISTIAS the Jewish delegation of translators were priests led by an elderly priest named Eleazar.

As for the AV...

KING JAMES VERSION TRANSLATORS

I. The First Westminister Company—translated the historical books, beginning with Genesis and ending with the Second Book of Kings.

Dr. Lancelot Andrews
Dr. John Overall
Dr. Hadrian Saravia
Dr. Richard Clarke, Dr. John Laifield, Dr. Robert Tighe, Francis Burleigh, Geoffry King, Richard Thompson
Dr. William Bedwell

II. The Cambridge Company—translated Chronicles to the end of the Song of Songs.

Edward Lively, Dr. John Richardson, Dr. Lawrence Chaderton
Francis Dillingham, Dr. Roger Andrews, Thomas Harrison, Dr. Robert Spaulding, Dr. Andrew Bing

III. The Oxford Company—translated beginning of Isaiah to the end of the Old Testament.

Dr. John Harding, Dr. John Reynolds
Dr. Thomas Holland, Dr. Richard Kilby
Dr. Miles Smith, Dr. Richard Brett, Daniel Fairclough

IV. The Second Oxford Company—translated the four Gospels, the Acts of the Apostles, and the Revelation of St. John the Divine.

Dr. Thomas Ravis, Dr. George Abbot
Dr. Richard Eedes, Dr. Giles Tomson, Sir Henry Savile
Dr. John Peryn, Dr. Ralph Ravens, Dr. John Harmar

V. The Fifth Company of Translators at Westminster—translated all of the Epistles of the New Testament

Dr. William Barlow, Dr. John Spencer, Dr. Roger Fenton, Dr. Ralph Hutchinson, William Dakins, Michael Rabbet, [Thomas(?)] Sanderson

VI. The Sixth Company of Translators at Cambridge translated the apocryphal books.

Dr. John Duport, Dr. William Brainthwaite, Dr. Jeremiah Radcliffe
Dr. Samuel Ward
Dr. Andrew Downes, John Bois
Dr. John Ward, Dr. John Aglionby, Dr. Leonard Hutten
Dr. Thomas Bilson, Dr. Richard Bancroft

With that, we know more about the translators of the KJV bible than the Green Phantom bible (NWT)

A useless exercise since it changes NOTHING about the AV’s accuracy and worth. Of course the tiresome canard “We don't know the names of the translators” of the NWT has nothing to do with accuracy and worth but with bias and ridicule, “Green Phantom”.

You wanted translator’s names, I gave you translator’s names. But then I could go on back to Eurasmus and his Greek NT.

How about Jerome’s translation from Greek into Latin?

No, I didn’t want translators names and don’t believe you do either.

I wanted to know how the knowing or not knowing any translators names made any difference in the merit of the work produced, whether the AV or the NWT or the LXX, whatever translation.

That seems to be a hugely difficult question for you.

***I wanted to know how the knowing or not knowing any translators names made any difference in the merit of the work produced, ***

Simple. some groups only want their own version of the bible that says things the way they want them to say it.
Like the Joseph Smith version, NWT, and some other off the wall private bible printings.

The fact that people who ARE EDUCATED in Greek and Hebrew do not use, or trust the NWT or JSKJV.

An example would be Joseph Smith’s so-called translation of THE BOOK OF ABRAHAM. Does the actual translation by trained Egyptologists have anything to do with the “merit” of the work simply because they are so different, as JS had no training in the Egyptian language?

If the NWT was “translated” from the original languages by people with NO TRAINING in the languages what good is it!

It appears the question really is more difficult than I thought. Do I need to repeat and explain it further?

Simple. If we knew the names of the “translators” of the NWT, we could look it up and see what their qualifications would be to be a translator.

If Farmer Jones got religion, but didn’t like what the bible said, and decided to “translate” his own with the aid of a Greek-English dictionary, making changes IN IT to WHAT HE wanted IT to say, would you believe it?

If the NWT is so great, what other non JW groups use it? What universities teach from it and hold it up as the apex of fine bible translating?

Zilch. Zip. Nada.

Your paintings remind me of Frank McCarthy’s work. I have approximately 12 pieces of his artwork.

Uh... that hasn't worked out so swell for SLC.

(They're pi$$ed that THEY do not have the legal basis for it; so they reject it.)
