A cloth (generally white) framing the face and drawn into folds under the chin; headdress once worn by laywomen, especially as a protection outdoors. It is now worn by some women religious.

Me. Used to be a common piece of women’s clothing. Back in the day, folks wanted to stay warm. Also, they rarely washed, so their hair was like GROSS.
