Is the Bishop of Rome kidding us? Whether intended or not, this statement is scandalous. The idea that the Blessed Mother might possibly have desired to accuse God of a lie—making God a liar—is so utterly contrary to Sacred Scripture, Sacred Tradition, Marian piety and Catholic theology that not even a bible believing Duck Commander would make this assertion. Even Neo-Catholics may struggle to spin this whopper!

Nope, they're not struggling with this one either.

“Our Lady was human” and so we talk about her. There isn’t enough conversation about our lady. I struggled for a long time with the last words of Jesus, “My God, My God, why have you forsaken me.” Even after I learned that it is the first line of Psalm 22 which ends, “he has done it.” Jesus was also human and that was perhaps his greatest gift. Mary is the new Eve and she embraced the cross. I can’t go through any event, even a happy one, without a negative thought. I was born with original sin and she was not but she was human and the devil hates her. So I’m okay with what Francis said. He does stir things up doesn’t he? Makes us have to think.

“If Francis were correct—and he is not—then there would be little merit won beneath the Cross by the doubting Mother.”

hmmmm … thus leaving all of it to have been won up to and on the cross but the perfect Son.

Its nonsense. And not being there, how can he know anyway?

This current Pope is a catastrophe in so many areas.

Tempted is not a sin. But Pope Francis, in his typical clutziness skirts heresy.

Only one sinless person ever walked the earth and even he was tempted by Satan. .... for all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God ...

Was Mary tempted? ... no doubt in my mind.
Did she give in to that temptation? Now that is a different question.

It's not scandalous.

Every person is tempted. Remember when Christ said "get behind me Satan" to Peter.

All humans are weak and all are tempted.

Yup. I have known only a few people who said they had never doubted their faith.

And I didn’t believe them. Mary was as human and subject to human frailty as anyone else.

Spiritual merit is acquired by overcoming temptation, not by being born with some inherent resistance to it.

IMO

But she, with her silence, hid the mystery that she did not understand and with this silence allowed for this mystery to grow and blossom in hope."

What none of these writers has done is explain the above sentence. How does it fit in the paragraph of which it is a part?

I can't do anything for you on the "gay" part. It appears the pope might have bought into the idea of inate gayness. I think homosexuality is a behavior, and as such it is a choice.

The New Testament records the temptation of Christ by the devil in the desert. That is well known.

The New Testament also records the Annunciation by Gabriel to Mary that she will bear the Savior; nowhere is there a mention of devil to counter Gabriel at the time of the Annunciation. If there was any time for Satan to tempt Mary, that was the time, right?

Finally, Genesis tells us:
“I will put enmities between thee and the woman, and thy seed and her seed: she shall crush thy head, and thou shalt lie in wait for her heel.”

Francis is practicing YOPIOS.

Temptation and doubts exist only if Satan personally shows up?

I'm not saying Mary WAS tempted.

I'm saying she was CAPABLE of being tempted. If she wasn't tempted in this situation, she was tempted in others because all humans are weak.

We don't see any indication of Daniel being tempted either, but that doesn't mean he wasn't capable of it.

Genesis' Messianic Promise. Jesus crushed the head of the serpent not Mary.

I’ll bite. Mary was human. Mary was tempted. Mary sinned. Mary was born with original sin the same as the rest of us. Mary died.
