“What should be different about a Mormon Christmas?” [Why Joseph Smith's birthday! Of course!]

SNIP

This special season has greater importance for the Latter-day Saints than for others because we not only observe the birthday of the Savior but also the birthday of our Prophet, Joseph Smith.

Joseph Smith, the great Prophet chosen by our Heavenly Father to usher in the last dispensation, was born on December 23, 1805, just two days before December 25, which the world observes as the birthday of Jesus Christ.

December 23 should be a day of great importance in every Latter-day Saint home, a day of remembering and honoring one of the great prophets of God, a day to pay tribute to a man whose life and mission has had a tremendous influence on the lives of every one of us.

Another religion war thread... My God is better than your God...

Either a man who claims godhood or the God who preexisted all things.

There can only be 1.

A more pertinent question as to which is better, is when people choose between the truth and a lie.

Now, back to your religious slapfest and good luck. (he said with a HARD slap on the back, ensuring he didn't miss out on the 'fest)

I’m shocked you missed the “It happened to Jesus and it happens to Joseph Smith” therefore Jesus == JS reference. And Jesus came to create a new Covenant, not restore the old one. In some respects, the LDS doctrine is a restoration to the Old Law of human works and sacrifice.

Yeah, you're right. (Wasn't paying attention)

You, see, I think the "Mormon theology" behind Stormprepper's comment can be found in this "official" Lds church magazine article (Ensign June 1994):

1994 (June) Official Lds Church Magazine places Joseph Smith on par with Jesus Christ re: "shed[ding] his blood in order that the final testament, the reestablishment of the new covenant, might be in full effect.": "As suggested earlier, the life of Joseph Smith was in some degree patterned after that of his Master, Jesus Christ. That pattern holds true even when extended to its tragic conclusion. Like his Master, Joseph Smith also shed his blood in order that the final testament, the reestablishment of the new covenant, might be in full effect...Thus, to bear witness of Joseph Smith is to bear witness of Jesus Christ, who sent him, in the same way that a testimony of Christ also implies clearly a testimony of the Eternal Father, who sent Him. On the other hand, to deny Joseph Smith outright—to deny the spiritual impressions which attest to his prophetic assignment—is to deny the Lord, who sent him."   Lds Church Magazine Ensign Hence, in the Mormon Church's eyes, Joseph Smith's the covenant establisher for the ENTIRE Church! (Not Jesus Christ) Therefore, this is one of the reasons why Mormons seek "to bear witness of Joseph Smith"

Merry CHRISTmas to all!

Except that Jesus didn’t die in a shoot-out with a smoking pistol in his grasp. And He didn’t have a pile of other men’s wives at the time. But otherwise similar.

(But I thought ALL prisoners who go down while shooting with two pistols smuggled in to them are "assassinated martyrs?" Hmmm...)

And, hey, those 11 husbands freely allowed Joseph Smith to confiscate their wives...ya know...like a "free" Christmas gift

I'm supposed to throw out the personal revelation I've received from God...because of what you say?

And HOW do you KNOW this revelation was from GOD?

...Joseph Smith had stayed up late caring for his 11-month-old son, Joseph, who was sick with the measles. "

HOW many children did JS father???

Well; history shows that she did NOT abide this COMMANDMENT as well as the FACT that JS was NOT blessed by GOD.

It sure must require a LOT of Loctite© to keep a MORMON's head screwed on tightly!!

I think I speak for others, in saying that these Daily Obsessionals are far, far from being any sort of an attraction.

You miss the point, Oh Seeker of Truth.

We are trying to DETRACT people from EVER thinking about joining up with the demonical religious farce known as Mormonism.

In May, LDS Church Spokeswoman Ruth Todd said the church estimated more than 85,000 full-time missionaries would be serving by Fall."

SOMEbody knows his time is short!

It is a wonderful time to think about the miracle of the coming of God’s Holy Son into the world to carry out his great mission of mercy for all of us.

True; and it is ALSO a wonderful time for all MORMONs to call Brigham Young a false prophet.

What OTHER choice do they have; realize they are truly damned: fit for the lake of fire?

Yeah... the one that gets the same treatment as Holy Water gets from Dracula!

I would not need to be a Jew, to be perturbed seeing Jews being attacked daily.

Do you still up for Islam like you do Mormonism?

IT gets attacked a LOT more than SLC does!

Except that Jesus didn’t die in a shoot-out with a smoking pistol in his grasp.

JESUS: Hey Smith! Remember that boast you made about doing more than even I had done to hold the 'church' together?

JOSEPH SMITH: Where am I?

JESUS: Don't you remember? A few seconds ago you were in that jail.

JOSEPH SMITH: Oh; yeah; but where am I NOW?

JESUS: Don't you remember? Does bang - bang ring a bell?

JOSEPH SMITH: Oh; yeah - that crummy gun I had was about USELESS!

JESUS: I hope you left instructions on how to hold your church together.

JOSEPH SMITH: Dang! I knew there was SOMETHING I was forgetting!

JESUS: Looks like there's a power struggle going on down there.

JOSEPH SMITH: Yeah; there was always SOMEone who wanted the power that I held - especially over the LADIES - wink wink.

JESUS: No need to worry about that now; remember what my friend Matthew wrote down?

JOSEPH SMITH: This? “At the resurrection people will neither marry nor be given in marriage; they will be like the angels in heaven” (Matthew 22:30)

JESUS: That's it.

JOSEPH SMITH: I thought that was mistranslated.

JESUS: Nah - it was right.

JOSEPH SMITH: Oh well; it was fun while it lasted. My buds will still get it on with the girls.

JESUS: Uh; I'm sorry; in just a few more years; your followers will cavein to the United States government and abandon the 'Eternal Covenant' that you came up with.

JOSEPH SMITH: ME!? YOU are the one that told me to do that!

JESUS: Sorry; but you must have mistranslated what I told you. What part of Do NOT commit ADULTERY did you not understand?

JOSEPH SMITH: mumble....

JESUS: What did you say?

JOSEPH SMITH: Oh, nothing.

JESUS: Well; it was interesting talking to you; but now I must get back to perparing a place for those who believe in Me.

JOSEPH SMITH: Oh, yeah; the Celestial Kingdom.

JESUS: No...

JOSEPH SMITH: The Telestial one?

JESUS: Nope.

JOSEPH SMITH: SUREly not the TERRESTRIAL one!!

JESUS: Nope. Didn't you read that the mind of man had NOT conceived of it? Paul wrote it down in 1 Corinthians 2:9.

JOSEPH SMITH: I thought that was mistranslated.

JESUS: No; it wasn't.

JOSEPH SMITH: You SURE?

JESUS: Yes. Now I must be going: what did you say your name was again?

JOSEPH SMITH: Joseph Smith.

JESUS: Hmmmm. According to my Heavenly FAITHbook, you didn't sign in as one of my friends - sorry, I never knew you.

JOSEPH SMITH: But....
