Not true. Re-read the account. Pilate only wanted to scourge Jesus and be done with it. The Jewish leaders threatened to go tell Caesar that Jesus declared Himself king and was a traitor to Caesar. The Jews were behind the crucifixion all the way. The Romans carried it out.
