Featured Term (selected at random:
UNPARDONABLE SIN
Post-biblical term that means blasphemy against the Holy Spirit. When the Pharisees, baffled by a miracle that Jesus had performed, accused him of using the power of the devil to accomplish it, he warned them, "Let anyone speak against the Holy Spirit and he will not be forgiven either in this world or in the next" (Matthew 12:22-32). also used as a synonym for the sin of despair.

I wonder where blasphemy fits in there.
Catholic Word of the Day Ping!
If you aren’t on this Catholic Word of the Day Ping list and would like to be, please send me a FReepmail.
Well, one would wonder if it is even more damning to not DO what Jesus said. So, based on this hermeneutic, can we assume you are doing..."Therefore, you are to be perfect as your Heavenly Father is perfect." Matt. 5:48?
But this is blasphemy against the HOLY SPIRIT.
Where do I find in the Holy Bible the reference to blaspheme against the Holy Spirit?
A. All of the following passages make reference to it:
“Whoever speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either in this age or in the age to come.” [Mt. 12:32]
“But whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit can never have forgiveness, but is guilty of an eternal sin.” [Mk. 3:29]
“And everyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven; but whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven.” [Lk. 12:10]
Bump
OMG....does Pope Francis know about this guy?
Sorry folks. Just realized the Father did not author a “Dictionary of Unpardonable Sins”, but just a dictionary. Please disregard my previous post. No disrespect intended.
Of course Pope Francis knows about him.
Father Hardon’s cases is being put forth for the Venerable step on the way to sainthood.
Three steps:
Venerable — initial announcement
Blessed - Beatification
Saint - Canonization
Sorry, but for this sinner, it's confusing. I never did "get it" but know that it's doctrine, so I believe it. I just don't UNDERSTAND it.
I understand lots in our faith but not this one. It just seems "out of the blue" to me.
But, my question was are you doing Matt. 5:48?
And everyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven; but whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven. [Lk. 12:10]
Does this mean that everyone who ever crossed himself while recting, “Spectacles, testicles, wallet, and watch” is going to Hell?
