Mary, Mother of God
http://www.catholic.com ^ | October 12, 2013 | Tim Staples

Posted on 10/12/2013 9:34:46 AM PDT by NKP_Vet

The most common objection I get to Mary as Mother of God, especially from Fundamentalists, but not limited to them, is, “The words ‘Mother of God’ are nowhere to be found in the Bible. Therefore, I will not accept it as true.”

This line of reasoning fails in dramatic fashion when carried to its logical conclusion when we consider the central mystery of the Christian Faith, the Trinity, is not found in Scripture verbatim as well. And we could go on. The Incarnation would fall by the wayside. Essential terms we use to do theology, like homoousios (Gr.—same nature, Jesus has the “same nature” as his Father), hypostatic union, the circumincessions of the persons of the Blessed Trinity, etc. All gone! The canon of Scripture, the nature of the sacrament of Holy Matrimony, and so much more we believe as Christians would be out the door because none of these things are made explicit in Scripture.

And this is not to mention “justification by faith alone.” Can anyone agree there is just a bit of irony in the fact that the same fellow who tells me he will not accept Mary as “Mother of God” because those words “are not found in the Bible,” will accept justification by faith alone when the only time those words are found in the Bible the words “not by” are right in front of them (cf. James 2:24)?

So then, brothers, stand firm and hold to the traditions that you were taught by us, either by our spoken word or by our letter.

And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable people who will also be qualified to teach others.

>> He gives as He pleases, and it's all gift, whether big or little.<<

You are so correct. He does give more to some than He gives to others. A clear example is found here.

Judges 5:24 Blessed above women shall Jael the wife of Heber the Kenite be,

Those words were also spoken of Noah, Moses, and David.

Mary was only blessed among women.

Luke 1:28 And the angel came in unto her, and said, Hail, thou that art highly favoured, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women.

A good point, Would a devout Jewish woman refer to the Messiah as the One True God? I don’t think so. That would likely merit the death penalty.

“In this, I am sure you are mistaken. You seem to think God MUST give out equal measures to everyone. This is untrue, and unBiblical. He gives as He pleases, and it’s all gift, whether big or little. One person may have a capacity for grace like a thimble-ful. Another may have a capacity like an Olympic swimming pool. They might both be filled to capacity, wholly by the gift of God: yet one will be greater than the other.”

And indeed, I know in this that Christ is our righteousness and holiness. Each believer has the righteousness and holiness of Christ.

Differences in gifts, maturity, etc. are normal. Position in Christ, holiness and righteousness are based on no human effort. They are imparted by Christ.

Least, greater, lessor, etc. are positions that do not have anything to do with His imparted righteousness or holiness.

Do you ordinarily eat ROIOS instead?

Narses!

Please provide a specific list of the traditions Paul is referring to here. Please cite sources so we can confirm.

That’s because the Catholic Church came before the gospels and Catholics compiled what you read in the Bible. Not much easier put than that.

The catholic "church" was created in 325 CE at Nicea
by the pagan Emperor Constantine.

You made the claim that divorce is often the reason for hatred towards Catholics.

It’s YOUR responsibility to back it up, not mine.

Your turn to attempt to answer the following questions.

Just what are those traditions Paul was referring to that he handed down that we are to keep that were not included in Scripture?

How do you know?

How do you know they’re from the apostles, Paul in particular?

How do you know they’ve been passed down faithfully?

What is your source for verifying all of the above?

Please provide the sources for verification purposes.

The temple curtain was rent in two on Good Friday. What say you to that?

In this, I am sure you are mistaken. You seem to think God MUST give out equal measures to everyone. This is untrue, and unBiblical. He gives as He pleases, and it's all gift, whether big or little. One person may have a capacity for grace like a thimble-ful. Another may have a capacity like an Olympic swimming pool. They might both be filled to capacity, wholly by the gift of God: yet one will be greater than the other.

It's got nothing to do with our capacity. It's got everything to do with the God who gives it. WE see each other as being different. I'm sure ants do too. However, compared to God, we have all sinned and are justified freely by His grace.

Acts 10:34-35 So Peter opened his mouth and said: “Truly I understand that God shows no partiality, but in every nation anyone who fears him and does what is right is acceptable to him.

Romans 3:21-26 But now the righteousness of God has been manifested apart from the law, although the Law and the Prophets bear witness to it— the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all who believe. For there is no distinction: for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, whom God put forward as a propitiation by his blood, to be received by faith. This was to show God's righteousness, because in his divine forbearance he had passed over former sins. It was to show his righteousness at the present time, so that he might be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus.

Ephesians

Ephesians 1:7-10 In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace, which he lavished upon us, in all wisdom and insight making known to us the mystery of his will, according to his purpose, which he set forth in Christ as a plan for the fullness of time, to unite all things in him, things in heaven and things on earth.

Galatians 3:28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is no male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.

First: there in no such thing as "Good Friday"

Yah'shua spent three days in the grave as He said.

The day Yah'shua died on the cross was
His Feast Day of Hag Matzoh.

Second The temple curtain was rent
there was no longer a need for any
human priests to perform any
sacrifice to remove sin.

We as humans can approach YHvH directly.

As any follower of the messiah, I am waiting for the Seventh Day i.e. the Seventh Millennium.
