“Cherry picking the Church Fathers is no better than cherry picking scripture.”

Well, it is you that is actually cherry picking. But, it matters not, since if Cyril himself says not to give him heed as an authority in and of himself, but held up scripture as our authority, then he is more with me than he is with you.

“No I didn’t, I focused on the doctrine aspect here.”

Read your past 3 or 4 posts. You don’t even respond to anything I say. What can I do about it? I can’t force you to read a sentence in its entirety.

In the Religion forum, on a thread titled Mary, Mother of God, D-fendr wrote:

My response in post number 177 is to your irrelevant claim concerning the Scripture in 2 Timothy. It is irrelevant because it comes from the basic strategy from Rome of denying Scripture as supreme over the magisterium. Your catechism, in response to Scripture, teaches you that you must listen to men. The Scriptures I posted are directly on point, first quoting Jesus and then Paul.

The picture I posted is a perfect depiction of Roman Catholic heresy. The scripture I quoted describes exactly who created those thoughts. That demonic statue appears to have tears of blood. To a Roman Catholic that is a miracle and so must be recognized as a sign from God. But, Paul describes that in 2 Thessalonians.

I do not need to defend Scripture. Jesus quoted Scripture whenever he spoke, as did Paul. It was His basic strategy to affirm his origins and his destiny. Through Scripture He was revealed as the Messiah. When He ascended into the heavens, He sent back the Holy Spirit to indwell us believers and to make His Word alive in our hearts.

Scripture is always relevant to someone seeking God. But to a Roman Catholic, it is something to be assumed to be incorrect, unless some gaudy clown puts a seal of approval and an explanation from circular logic. The Roman Catholic catechism claims many of God's miracles our just fables meant to teach principles, but my God can do all things, and I believe every one.

He is my Father and I am his son, grafted into the family, adopted and loved completely through Jesus Christ. My heavenly father has only the best gifts for his children. The best gift of all is eternal salvation through Jesus Christ. Everything that exists is through Jesus Christ. Believe it or not!

Mary is dead. Mary's body bore Jesus Christ, but she is not the mother of God and she is certainly not someone who can effectually represent us in heaven. There is only one name under heaven by which we must be saved, and that is Jesus Christ. There is only one intercessor between God and man, and that is Jesus Christ. There is only one Word, though there is much written throughout Scripture, but we see in John 1:1, in the beginning was the Word… And that Word is Jesus Christ.

So, with the guidance of the indwelling Holy Spirit in my life, all scripture is given to me… and I don't need some phony pretenders in elegant gowns telling me that it doesn't say what it says. You can d-fend your heresies and damnable lies, but God will always reveal his words to those who have an ear to listen. But, that ear isn't the one on each side of your head, it is an open heart ready to receive the truths of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Rome is preaching another gospel… and the Roman Catholic activity of bowing to statues, or beseeching dead people for favors will only send one to hell. (Oh yeah, you guys think somebody can pray somebody out of "purgatory", but that's another one of those fairytales from Rome.) I even read now that they are flying some idolatrous statute to Rome for a special blessing ceremony. Satan is laughing all day long!

Mary was a chosen vessel and nothing more. Someone had to do it, because of prophecy. But, she is dead. She cannot help you with God, anymore. She's dead. I am a saint, according to Scripture, and yes I do pray for you as long as I'm alive. I want all to know the fullness of the unmerited favor from God, through Jesus Christ. We are not saved by Rome, and have no allegiance to their claims. The only knee we bow is before the throne of God, and not some idols from the bowels of hell.

Nope, Mary is with God in Heaven. You doubt that? You deny the Communion of the Saints?

Your catechism, doctrine, is sola scriptura - correct me if I’m wrong please.

Using the proof text in discussion, your doctrine fails its own test.

As for the rest of your reply, while I appreciate you expressing your other views, they are still irrelevant to the point I’m discussing here.

I’ll assume that by human works you mean those of our own choosing. I think that was the point of Matt. 7:22,23, that even powerful works if not done according to Christ’s will are termed “lawlessness”, and without merit.

A very good reference. One I like as well is earlier in Matthew chapter 7:

15 “Beware of the false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly are ravenous wolves. 16 You will know them by their fruits. Grapes are not gathered from thorn bushes nor figs from thistles, are they? 17 So every good tree bears good fruit, but the bad tree bears bad fruit. 18 A good tree cannot produce bad fruit, nor can a bad tree produce good fruit. 19 Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 20 So then, you will know them by their fruits.

while encouraged by at least one RC apologist,

Sir, I am hardly a RC apologist:) Narses made a claim that Roman tradition was Biblical. I came back and asked where indulgences and self-flaggelation came from. And thus the post you responded to.

Using the proof text in discussion, your doctrine fails its own test.

Using the proof text in discussion your replies which never say anything new , your doctrine fails its own test.

You can recite all of your cathecism rote response, but it does not prove that the words of the magisterium trump those from Scripture. we see in verse 15 the beginning of the thought that "the holy Scriptures are able to make you wise for salvation", and then we see "all Scripture is God-breathed"… then finally we see in verse 17 the word "thoroughly", which is sufficient to me and to anyone not so blind as a Roman Catholic seems to be. Nowhere does it tell us to look to another place. You have no argument, nor do you have an answer. Your words are specious at best! 2 Timothy 3: 15... and how from infancy you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. 16 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, 17 so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.

thor·ough [thur-oh, thuhr-oh]

adjective

1. executed without negligence or omissions: a thorough search.
2. complete; perfect; utter: thorough enjoyment.
3. extremely attentive to accuracy and detail; painstaking: a thorough worker; a thorough analysis. ...
