Pope calls synod to discuss families, divorce and remarriage
http://www.catholicnews.com/data/stories/cns/1304231.htm ^

The pope had told reporters accompanying him on his plane back from Rio de Janeiro in July that the next synod would explore a "somewhat deeper pastoral care of marriage," including the question of the eligibility of divorced and remarried Catholics to receive Communion.

Pope Francis added at the time that church law governing marriage annulments also "has to be reviewed, because ecclesiastical tribunals are not sufficient for this. It is complex, the problem of the pastoral care of marriage."

Such problems, he said, exemplified a general need for forgiveness in the church today.

"The church is a mother, and she must travel this path of mercy, and find a form of mercy for all," the pope said. More at link.

Your point being what, exactly?

I repeat, are you saying that Jesus and St. John, both celibate males, have nothing to say to married people? Simple question, can be answered with a "yes" or a "no".

Most of these priest leave home as teenagers for school

Most priests aren't any more likely than anyone else to "leave home as teenagers for school," since most priests today are ordained after being adults in secular life for awhile.

If you mean they go to college, so do most other clergy, marriage counselors, etc. Try again ...

This is the big deal (which up to this point has not been talked about in this thread..unless I missed it):

The pope had told reporters accompanying him on his plane back from Rio de Janeiro in July that the next synod would explore a "somewhat deeper pastoral care of marriage," including the question of the eligibility of divorced and remarried Catholics to receive Communion.

Church teaching is that those who are divorced and remarried CAN NOT receive communion. Why? Because they are committing adultery without an annulment. To receive the Holy Eucharist in that state would be an act of sacrilege.

If Francis, allows these folks to receive the Eucharist he will be clearly changing doctrine. And would provide a clear-cut example that he is a heretic.

Of course, this may not happen, but I wouldn't be surprised if it did. He already allows politicians in a state of mortal sin to receive the Eucharist and commit sacrilege.

I think that’s the point. The article says that various dioceses have started interpreting things their own way

NEWS FLASH: 40,000 Roman Catholic Dioceses Interpret Things Their Own Way!

LOL!!

"Sorry, nobody who isn’t married has any business telling married couples how to do marriage. You cannot understand it until you’ve been there."

Well, don't tell me you're against gay sodomy -- how can you knock if you haven't tried it? And don't try and teach your sons how to be gentleman, seeing as you're not a man. I could go on; your logic in this case is specious.

You mean other than God has said it's a sin?

And don't try and teach your sons how to be gentleman, seeing as you're not a man.

You mean that the gender that is most often the recipient of gentlemanly behavior can't teach someone about that behavior?

I could go on; ....

Maybe it's best you quit when you did. :-)

"You mean other than God has said it's a sin?"

Yes He did -- but He is also a single man, which apparently means He's not allowed to talk about marriage.

"You mean that the gender that is most often the recipient of gentlemanly behavior can't teach someone about that behavior?"

A lot of single people have to put up with crap from other people's ill-behaved children. Whats your point?

God, the creator of all cannot make laws?
Go, who created man and women, who ordained marriage can not tell us what marriage is?

Your logic is truly dizzying.

Not my logic, metmom’s logic. Jesus was a single man, and I have been informed that single men aren’t qualified to discuss marriage.

No.
That is your illogical conclusion.

It was stated that single men are not qualified discuss marriage. Jesus is a single man. Formally speaking,

.All men who are single are men who are not qualified to discuss marriage.

.Jesus is a man Who is single.

.Jesus is a man Who is not qualified to discuss marriage.

If a conclusion is to be based on metmom's assertion (that no single men are qualified to discuss marriage), there is no other conclusion to be reached.

Jesus, who knows everything?

Prove your claim that John was celibate.

And then post what he had to say about marriage.

You never addressed that question or provided evidence that John was celibate.

I've heard that kind of bizzaro logic from other Catholics who wanted to justify engaging in all manner of things that were wrong. Hey, they had to see for themselves instead of depending on someone else telling them.

God already condemns homosexuality as sin. I'll take His word for it. There's no need to experience it to know it's wrong.

It's ludicrous to expect unmarried people to counsel people on marriage, although I honestly never expected anything less than Catholics justifying it from their priests, who don't have a clue about the trials and difficulties that a marriage can produce.

Well, then. I guess Catholics don’t believe that Jesus is God and knows everything. Including how to have a good marriage that He created or what people are thinking and feeling.

We just heard that kind of bizzaro logic from you -- no single person is qualified to discuss marriage -- so how can any woman be qualified to discuss manhood, or any normal person to discuss abnormal behavior?

Your comments appear to contradict each other. Can a person discuss and advice on (or against) something which they have no personal experience with, or not?

It's ludicrous to expect unmarried people to counsel people on marriage. . . don't have a clue about the trials and difficulties that a marriage can produce.

I knew what it takes to have a good marriage when I was single, had a pretty good idea of the trials and tribulations married couples go through.

I knew because I saw how married people related to each other, including my parents.

I knew because people had been getting married for thousands of years and have never been shy about sharing their experience and wisdom.

I knew because I was taught that there are certain attitudes and behaviors which can help or hurt a relationship.

I was taught what a Christian marriage demands of its participants, how God teaches us to approach the sacrament of marriage, what He expects of us.

God's teachings on the subject of marriage can be known to single people; it's not a secret knowledge.

I presume you'll make an exception for Jesus and Paul?
