Pope Francis on Monday morning held the Public Ordinary Consistory for the forthcoming Canonization of Blessed Pope John XXIII and Blessed Pope John Paul II. During the course of the Consistory in the Vatican's Consistory Hall, the Pope decreed that his two predecessors will be raised to Sainthood on April 27, 2014, the day on which the Church celebrates the Second Sunday of Easter and Divine Mercy.

Great way to honor the Divine Mercy of Jesus.

By the way, just as a FReeper-appropriate reminder:

Some of the statements of these popes:

The fact that some people don't listen doesn't change the importance or validity of their words.

The USCCB has never heard of the Principle of Subsidiarity.

I’ve often said that they, and the whole Congress, too, should be locked up with the Complete Works of Thomas Sowell until they demonstrate adequate comprehension.

Why is Pope John 23rd being considered for canonization when he was undeniably a modernist and suspected of being a Freemason? Miracles have to be attributed to your work to be considered for canonization - the only result of Pope John 23rd’s work is the destruction of Catholic Church.

To please those who admired either Blessed John Paul II or John XXIII and keep the peace in the Church.

Because I am sure Bl. John XXIII had plenty of time to attend the stated meetings (Masonry meeting). Sheesh.

Also, did you forget what Jesus told Peter? (Matt 6:16-19) http://www.drbo.org/chapter/47016.htm

[16] Simon Peter answered and said: Thou art Christ, the Son of the living God. [17] And Jesus answering, said to him: Blessed art thou, Simon Bar-Jona: because flesh and blood hath not revealed it to thee, but my Father who is in heaven. [18] And I say to thee: That thou art Peter; and upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. [19] And I will give to thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven. And whatsoever thou shalt bind upon earth, it shall be bound also in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose upon earth, it shall be loosed also in heaven.

Man can’t destroy the Church, as it was instituted by Jesus Christ himself.

A popularity contest? I don't think so. Do you really feel that way?

Bring butter! Reports of the death of the Church are highly overrated.

As we celebrated the feast of St. Michael the Archangel yesterday, we are reminded of the prayer to St. Michael by Pope Leo XIII, especially this section:

“...These most crafty enemies have filled and inebriated with gall and bitterness the Church, the spouse of the Immaculate Lamb, and have laid impious hands on her most sacred possessions (Lam 3:15).

In the Holy Place itself, where has been set up the See of the most holy Peter and the Chair of Truth for the light of the world, they have raised the throne of their abominable impiety, with the iniquitous design that when the Pastor has been struck, the sheep may be scattered.

Arise then, O invincible prince, bring help against the attacks of the lost spirits to the people of God, and bring them the victory.

The Church venerates thee as protector and patron; in thee holy Church glories as her defense against the malicious powers of this world and of hell; to thee has God entrusted the souls of men to be established in heavenly beatitude.

Oh, pray to the God of peace that He may put Satan under our feet, so far conquered that he may no longer be able to hold men in captivity and harm the Church. ...”

So, does Satan seek to actively destroy the Church? Yes. Does he roam Vatican City? Yep. Will he be able to destroy the Church? Nope. Will every Pope have detractors, whether legitimate or otherwise? You bet.
