How can any passage in the Bible refer to the Bible (in Greek, "Biblia," literally, "Books") as a whole, since the collection of books that comprise the Bible wasn't determined until long after the passages in the Bible were written?

We can do as you do and consult with the fallible Catholic Church, or we can consult with the word of God, the scriptures...

We already know your religion's position so let's check the bible...

Luk_24:44 And he said unto them, These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me.

That settles it for the Old Testament...Everyone knows what the Law, the Prophets and the Psalms are...

Luk 11:51 From the blood of Abel unto the blood of Zacharias, which perished between the altar and the temple: verily I say unto you, It shall be required of this generation.

Old Testament bible history starts at Genesis and ends at the end of Zacharia...

Heb_10:7 Then said I, Lo, I come (in the volume of the book it is written of me,) to do thy will, O God.

Cut and dried...Jesus determined the canon of the OT long, long before there was a Catholic religion...

New Testament???

Rom 3:1 What advantage then hath the Jew? or what profit is there of circumcision?
Rom 3:2 Much every way: chiefly, because that unto them were committed the oracles of God.

The Jews have never accepted any Catholic material as being scripture...And God certainly did not wait for 400 years for some apostate religion to decide what was His scripture...

Genesis is the beginning...Revelation is the end...John the apostle ends it up with

Rev_22:20 He which testifieth these things saith, Surely I come quickly. Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus.

The bible's got it covered...

LOL Your grasp of the real word of God is staggering to say the least. Follow those error ridden books at your own risk.

We can do as you do and consult with the fallible Catholic Church, or we can consult with the word of God, the scriptures...

Which Bible is the true Bible, Luther's Bible, the Catholic Bible, or the Orthodox Bible?

Do you understand that it's impossible to consult any Bible for the answer? The answer depends on an extra-biblical authority. It's simple logic.

If there exists no Authority, no "pillar and foundation of truth," to determine the canon of Scripture, then one is left with, as R.C. Sproul once said, "a fallible collection of infallible books."

I'll say one thing for R.C., he was somewhat logical.

it alone is The infallible and sufficient standard for faith, salvation and obedience and growth in grace.

Which Bible?

Luther's Bible, the Protestant Bible, or the Catholic Bible?

The answer to this question requires an infallible extra-biblical authority. Otherwise you're left with, as R.C. Sproul once said, "a fallible collection of infallible books."

Whatever that means.

Luther's doctrine seems simple, but it's really just simplistic and erroneous.

The prayer to St Michael asks him to “defend us in battle against the wiles and wickedness of the devil, and do thou or Prince of the Heavenly Host, THROUGH THE POWER OF GOD, cast into hell Satan and all................”

This prayer is powerful and ultimately relies upon the power of God, who uses His angels and saints against the wickedness and snares of the devil and his cohorts.

Amen!

Amen??? Your branch of Catholicism won't let you read the bible either???

Eph 6:11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.

An angel isn't going to help much here...

Eph 6:12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
Eph 6:13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
Eph 6:14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;
Eph 6:15 And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;
Eph 6:16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.
Eph 6:17 And take the helmet of salvation,

These are all defensive weapons...There's only one offensive weapon:

and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:

The bible is the ONLY thing you can successfully fight the devil with...Tradition??? Nope...Angels??? Nope...If you don't know the bible and know it well, you are going into battle unarmed...And there WILL be battles...

What boggles my mind is that they have people who will repeat this garbage to bible believers who easily know better than to fall for those lies and then won’t even check the scriptures to see how they have been deceived and lied to...And then move on to the typical insults...

Do you understand that it's impossible to consult any Bible for the answer? The answer depends on an extra-biblical authority. It's simple logic.

Col_2:8 Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.

1Co_1:20 Where is the wise? where is the scribe? where is the disputer of this world? hath not God made foolish the wisdom of this world?

1Co_2:5 That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.

1Co_2:13 Which things also we speak, not in the words which man's wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual.

Eph_1:17 That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him:

It's clear to me that you don't spend much time, if any, in the scriptures... Your religion teaches you contrary to the scriptures that ONLY the clerics are indwelt with the Holy Ghost...Obviously most of you believe that...

A person will get nothing out of the scriptures who is not indwelt with the Spirit...He/she has nothing to guide him/her other than man's logic and wisdom...

Those who spend time in the scriptures are of a different mind than you...

*YAWN*

“Have thou ever in your mind this seal, which for the present has been lightly touched in my discourse, by way of summary, but shall be stated, should the Lord permit, to the best of my power with the proof from the Scriptures. For concerning the divine and holy mysteries of the Faith, not even a casual statement must be delivered without the Holy Scriptures; nor must we be drawn aside by mere plausibility and artifices of speech. Even to me, who tell you these things, give not absolute credence, unless thou receive the proof of the things which I announce from the Divine Scriptures. For this salvation which we believe depends not on ingenious reasoning , but on demonstration of the Holy Scriptures.” (Cyril of Jerusalem, Cat. Lecture 4, Ch. 17)

This “the scripture doesn’t teach sola scriptura” nonsense is tired and old. I’ve seen you repeat these stupid things from thread to thread, despite detailed arguments utterly refuting you. How many times does it take Jesus quoting scripture at His enemies to show that we should keep with scripture? How many times do we have to show you that “all scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable... that the man of God may be perfect?”

I’m sorry, but I’m going to have to stick with common sense, over the illiteracy that the RCC promotes.

Ink on pape!!!! Yippee!!!!

There it is for all to see...The bible is just ink on paper, to you...Your religion teach you that??? If so, you got a phony religion...You wouldn't even know about your praying in the spirit if it wasn't for that 'ink on paper'...

In fact, if 'ink on paper' is all that the bible is, you are a faker for even claiming anything out of the bible as real truth...

Well when I was a kid I would take a trip
Every Summer down to “Mississipp,” to visit
My Granny and ‘er “Auntie Belluam World.”
I’d run barefooted all-day long, climbing
Trees free as a song; One day I happened
To catch myself a squirrel.
Well I stuffed him down
In an old shoe box, and punched a couple
Holes in the top; When Sunday came I snuck em’
In the Church. I sittin’ way back on the very
Last pew showin em’ to my good buddy Hugh,
When that squirrel got loose and went totally
Buzzerk.
Well what happened next is hard to tell;
Some thought it was Heaven others thought
It was Hell, but the fact that something was
Among was plain to see.
As the choir sang “ I Surrender All”, the
Squirrel ran up Harv Newman’s coveralls, and
Harv leaped to his feet and said something’s got
A hold on me yeeeooow!
CHORUS
The day the squirrel went buzzerk in the
First Self-Righteous Church in that sleepy little
Town of Pascagoula. It was a fight for survival
That broke out in revival. They were jumpin’ pews
And shoutin’ “Hallelujah”.
VERSE 2
Well Harv hit the aisles dancin’ and screamin’.
Some thought he had Religion others thought
He had a demon, and Harv thought he had a
Weed-eater loose in his fruit-of-the-looms.
He fell to his knees to plead and beg, and the
Squirrel ran out of his britchy-leg; unobserved
To the otherside of the room.
All the way down to the AMEN pew, where sat
“Sister Bertha Better-than-You”, who had been
Watching all of the commotion with sufistic glee.
But shoot, you should have seen the look in her eyes
When that squirrel jumped her garders and crossed her
Thighs. And she jumped to her feet and said,
“Lord have mercy on me!”
As the squirrel made laps inside her dress,
She began to cry and then to confess
To sins that would make a sailor blush with shame.

She told of gossip and church disention,
But the thing that got the most attention
Is when she talked about her love life
Then she started naming names!

The day the squirrel went berserk.
In the First Self-Righteous Church
Of that sleepy little town of Pascagoula.
It was a fight for survival,
That broke out in revival.
They were jumpin pews and shouting Halelujah!

Well seven deacons and the pastor got saved
And 25, 000 dollars got raised.
And 50 volunteered for missions in the Congo
On the spot.
And even without and invitaion
There were at least 500 rededications.
And we ALL got rebaptised whether we needed it or not.

Well you’ve heard the Bible stories I guess
Of how he parted the waters for Moses to pass.
All th miracles God has brought to this l’ world.
But the one I’ll remember to my dyin day
Is how he put that church back on the narrow way
With a half crazed Mississippi Squirrel

The day the squirrel went berserk.
In the First Self-Righteous Church
Of that sleepy little town of Pascagoula.
It was a fight for survival,
That broke out in revival.
They were jumpin pews and shouting Halelujah!

The Word of God is Jesus...The word of God is God's inspired words put in writing as it was given to Holy men to write...

The (written) word of God is call the Sword...That's because it will cut the wheat from the chaff...The words of God (the Sword) will cut and separate the flesh of the old man (a sinner) from soul and spirit of the new man (the saint) in what's called the spiritual circumcision (the new birth)...

Heb_4:12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

The words in that book will judge you...You'd better know what it says...

Joh_12:48 He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day.

A smart man does not mock the word of God...

Nobody is mocking. It is when someone declares it is what they say it is by their own words only then to use it to their own means like.............? Hmmmmmmmm.

Let The Lord be God and cut out theatrics? hmmmmm
