Conservative Catholics -- both politically and religiously -- can now rejoice: due to her House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi's (D-Calif.) longstanding support for abortion, she must be denied Communion under the law of the Catholic Church, said Chief Justice Cardinal Raymond Burke, head of the highest court at the Vatican.
Burke referenced Canon 915, a part of Canon law which states those Catholics who obstinately persevere in manifest grave sin are not to be admitted to Holy Communion.
As Cardinal Burke noted, [Pelosi] is a person who obstinately, after repeated admonitions, persists in a grave sin--cooperating with the crime of procured abortion--and still professes to be a devout Catholic.

good start. keep going...
While I'm right there with you emotionally, Love does not rejoice at injustice but rejoices in the good. For our own soul's health we simply MUST pray that the reprobate repent.
Excommunication is often called "medicinal." I can think of two ways this is true. It is sort of a quarantine to protect the faithful. It is also like an "intervention" to impress upon the excommunicate person the gravity of her condition. God desires not the death of a sinner but rather that he may turn from his wickedness and live. One way to get that to happen is to show how perilous the state of the sinner is. Excommunication does that.
Personally, I think we're approaching the time when the Pope must act, for Pelosi's good and that of the nation. She will blow off the cardinal's statement. She can't blow off the Holy Father w/o blowing off her claim to be Catholic.
technically no.
I read that and the two articles seem to differ as to what Burke said. One has “should”, one has “must”, that’s the point
It was only months ago when she took communion at the Vatican.
This is delicious news.
Pel0si: “As a practicing Catholic....”
Can’t practicing the Eucharist!
I’m new to the Catholic Church and I treasure my faith. I’m worried, but I hope, that this vile woman won’t be able to buy her way out of this.
The church should realize that the laity *like* discipline.
Even if the church was somewhat too strict about punishing those in open defiance, heterodoxy and outright heresy, it would be far more appreciated by the laity than if the church takes a wishy-washy stance, allowing the offensive to torment the faithful and defile the sacred places and sacraments.
Actually, from I heard the last time she took communion the wafer burst into flames when she touched it, and the priest suffered 2nd degree burns.
Trust me she is still getting communion. Until the local bishop says no she will get it. He has threatened her in the past but never followed through.
Does she even go to church? I mean when there is no celebrity funeral....
Not what Burke said.
You can find it reported either way, actually, but I think the other report is verbium and ones like this have been or will be corrected.
