Catholic church calls for immigration reform

MEDFORD, Ore.-Some Medford Catholic parishioners may hear talk of Comprehensive Immigration Reform from the pulpit.

One Sacred Heart Parish Pastor said U.S. Bishops and the local Diocese have asked priests to tell congregations to consider their Catholic values when talking to legislators about the country's immigration laws.

"As a pastor I also see some of the challenges that people face particularly when families are split apart because of immigration [...] I know that our current system is broken and it needs to be fixed," said Father Kenneth Sampson.

Roman Catholic Bishops across the nation have called for immigration reforms that include a path to citizenship for immigrants living in the country illegally.

Boston Archdiocese Cardinal, Sean O'Malley, said reform should be, "rooted in the principle of family unification," and appealed for support from American Catholics.

I wouldn’t get too damned carried away in disparaging the Catholic Church by what one sees of the Church in the United States.

Is America really all that bad compared to the others, for a Catholic?

According to the CIA Factbook, the five countries with the largest number of Catholics are:
Brazil
Mexico
Philippines
United States
Italy

Counting heads and noses is some distance from my point. Better to say the Church in the US is simply no stand alone model, as those in the Church, on earth, are a sinful lot for sure. Always have been. Socialism is forbidden, however many degrees it may exist in some quarters of Catholic influence.

Besides, the Enemy has been after the Church from the beginning. That is one sign you are in the right place.

All I know is...on the day I finally meet the Lord face-to-face, and he asks me what I have done to help bring His Father’s Kingdom to Earth, I do not want to have to tell him I spent my time ripping my Protestant brothers and sisters to shreds over disagreements on the fine points of doctrine.

We didn’t hear a peep about immigration—illegal or otherwise— in our priest’s homily yesterday. He preached right from the Gospel, like he always does. And I live in Arizona and our parish has a HUGE Spanish-speaking population.

Sorry, but this site is about American politics, the Catholic denomination in America itself is the primary concern for most of us trying to promote a conservative pro-life agenda in our nation.

Nancy Pelosi just met with the Pope and received communion at his Vatican, I think that headquarters has not lost control of the Catholic church in America.

I personally know the priest in Medford.

I doubt this will happen.

Instead they all gave the homily (sermon) based on the day’s Gospel as is usual.

My experience too.

Catholic Priests spending their Homilies talking about the Gospel - who would have thought it possible??

Must make the Catholic haters here pound sand in a rage.

Nor would I care to hear that I failed to defend Christ’s beloved bride against slander, nor that I failed to preach the truth I received from her, nor that I scandalized weaker brethren by carping, trivial criticisms of the church.
