A female CofE vicar yesterday insisted she has not sinned against God by putting an obscene bumper sticker reading 'WTFWJD' on the back of her car.
The Reverend Alice Goodman stuck the sticker, standing for What The F*** Would Jesus Do?', on the back of her red Subaru Legacy - sparking outrage from members of her parish.
But the Reverend insists the sticker is harmless and even the former Archbishop of Canterbury Dr Rowan Williams was happy to accept a lift in her car in the past.
The sign - a play on the Christian motto What Would Jesus Do? - has offended some of the worshippers in the Fulbourn and Wilbrahams parish in Cambridgeshire where Dr. Goodman is the rector.
But the American-born vicar, 54, claimed she was simply using an Old English word.

that’s great.
“I am just surprised people think it is a real church”
Didn’t the followers of Jesus act like this? In another ten years a majority of people will believe they did. Five years later a majority will believe that 6 apostles were female and 6 were male; they’re trying to fabricate five companians for Mary Magdalene...
‘WTFWJD’
I have to admit I did laugh.
Subaru driver equals LESBIAN!!!
Easy now. I liked my Subaru.
Wait. Maybe you’re right. I’m a lesbian trapped in a guy’s body.

The jokes just write themselves, don't they?
I guess my approach here is to trace the smaller steps. What accounts for bankrupt praxis? She appears to justify this on the grounds that she means to wake people up, when all she has achieved is to make herself the topic of conversation.
Is that what her flock needs? What line of thought would reduce her claimed pastoral call to a bumper sticker? Will she be more effective in ministering to the elderly devout or in instucting children? Will she give good counsel to the despairing or wise rebukes to the proud?
Where does such a view of sacred ministry arise? What formation leads to this sort of thing? Whom is she serving?
If the gentlest examination can shatter this sort of behavior, how much more will it be pulverized by a more severe inquiry?
