Catholic Hospital Association Continues to Provide Cover for ObamaCare's Abortion Funding

At the height of the contentious debate that surrounded health care reform in 2010, negotiations nearly ground to a halt due objections made by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) over abortion funding provisions in the legislation. The USCCB, which is considered quite liberal in the American sense of the word on the issues of health care and health insurance, refused to give its blessing to what would become ObamaCare due to the legislation's funding for elective abortions.

At the time, ObamaCare appeared doomed. Many Democrats stated that they could not support a health care bill which didn't include expanded abortion funding, while other pro-life Democrats (such as then-Rep. Bart Stupak and his "Stupak Dozen") refused to cede any ground and stood with the USCCB.

Just when it appeared that this controversy would end the Democrats' latest attempt at "health care reform," the Catholic Hospital Association (CHA) intervened in an attempt to end the standoff. As described by Slate shortly after ObamaCare became law:

"In the run-up to passage of the health care bill, representatives of the nearly 60,000 U.S. nuns signed a letter in support of the health care bill, contra the bishops, because, they wrote, supporting better health care is "the real pro-life stance." From there, the dominoes toppled fast-Bart Stupak, the Catholic pro-life Democrat who'd refused to vote in favor of the bill because of the abortion question, initially dismissed the nuns' letter but then backed down and settled for an executive order on abortion of questionable import and scope. And the bill passed."

And so ObamaCare became law, with the head of the CHA receiving one of 21 presidential pens as it was signed, all because the CHA declared their comfort with the allegedly pro-life provisions of the bill.

Of Course they do, they probably also vote Democrat.

Kind of like a Democrat going to a pro life rally, then going home and voting Democrat anyway. They are not pro life even if the attend pro life rallies and still vote Democrat

If you are Democrat you are simply NOT pro life...end of discussion, case closed

The nuns have become socialists; a far cry from the ones I had as teachers when I went to Catholic School.

Phyllis Schlafly chronicled this in her most recent book, “A Higher Power: (I believe that’s the name of the book).

The nuns have become socialists;

Really? All of them? You might want to check your facts.

a far cry from the ones I had as teachers when I went to Catholic School.

I can't comment on what you had as teachers (I wasn't there) ... but are you seriously proposing that traditional, habit-wearing, faithfully Catholic nuns and sisters are extinct? Again, you might want to check your facts.

Those religious women need to be ex-communicated. The USCCB needs to take action on this.

True enough, AB. The Carmelites, for examples, are still going strong.
There is a convent of nuns who are the SILENT ones who live in cloister, not ever even seeing their family except behind the screen. Their purpose in life is to worship God and pray, pray, pray. Their cloister is in the HAIGHT-ASHBURY district of San Francisco.

Voting 38 times to completely repeal BarryCare only to have it tossed in the trash as soon as it hit the Senate isn't a case of people who, "refuse to defund Obamacare". It's a consequence of the Senate still being controlled by the democrat fascist party just like it has been for almost all of the past eighty years.

House to vote, yet again, on repealing Obamacare

By Jenna Johnson, Washington Post, Published: July 17 at 2:10 pm

The Republican-controlled House has already voted 37 times to repeal or significantly change all or part of the Affordable Care Act of 2010, which the GOP likes to call Obamacare. Time No. 38 and possibly 39 are expected Wednesday evening as the House votes on legislation that would delay two key parts of the new health-care law for another year. President Obama has already said that he will veto both of these bills.

Don't let that interfere with ranting Republicans in the House, though. The more Republicans who are weakened, the more people who to third party, and the more people who sit out elections, the better it is for the democrat fascist thugs that have run the country for generations. In fact, that sort of "they're all the same" trash is how they've had control of both Houses of Congress for nearly all of the past eighty years.
