For although a man may have many revelations, and have power to do many mighty works, yet if he boasts in his own strength, and sets at naught the counsels of God, and follows after the dictates of his own will and carnal desires, he must fall and incur the vengeance of a just God upon him.Doctrine and Covenants 3:4
Did Joseph Smith boast in his own strength?
I have more to boast of than ever any man had A large majority of the whole have stood by me. Neither Paul, John, Peter, nor Jesus ever did it. I boast that no man ever did such a work as I. Joseph Smith, May 26, 1844, History of the Church, vol 6, pp. 408-409
I prophesy they never will have power to kill me till my work is accomplished, and I am ready to die.History of the Church, vol. 6, p. 58
Was Joseph ready to die?
Joseph opening the door a few inches he discharged his six shooter in the stairway two or three barrels of which missed fire. and he fell outward into the hands of his murderers, exclaiming. O Lord, my God! June 27, 1844, History of the Church, vol. 6, p. 618
Whoso boasteth himself of a false gift is like clouds and wind without rain. Proverbs 25:14

“So was the poor man a martyr?”
Did any of the Apostles get killed because they had the Nazereth Expositor destroyed for exposing their systematic sexual abuse of women? And during their death did they fight their way out with gunfire while screaming a Masonic plea for help?
Well...#1...how many other armed prisoners firing off weapons in other settings have been deemed as "martyrs?"
Beyond that...see my conjecture in post #17.
Because it also comes down to how much a given guard may have known that Smith & Co. were armed with two loaded weapons...loaded weapons that Mormon historians conceded were in possession of Smith (with one being fired off)...just a concession you NEVER see Lds top leadership emphasize -- or even mention -- in their tours of the Carthage jail they own...or in their writing/speaking of Smith's death.
This is info deemed as not "faith promoting."
Lynch mobs tend to shorten the lifespan a bit...
In some parts of the country, “he needed killin’” is a valid defense.
No saying I would wish that on most folk.
(So does having two armed weapons as a prisoner)
(Why...just ask any prison guard!)
#1...At one point in the early 1840s, Smith's Nauvoo, IL built-up Mormon community was at large -- or larger -- than Chicago was at the time.
#2...In 1844, Smith himself had declared himself a candidate for POTUS...something he wouldn't have done if he was dealing with political rivalry in Nauvoo...which he really didn't have.
I really couldn’t care less about Joseph Smith. I was being sarcastic and it seems some took my bait.
Yeah, those 3 shots he got off were a real mob-stopper !
Poorly I might add.
Poorly I might add.
I could have done better.
Yeah. Now imagine a prisoner in a modern prison arming himself with two loaded weapons. A "response" from the prison guards wouldn't be less than an "all-out response." And just because such an armed prisoner, who gets 6 shots off might not be a "real guard-stopper" with such weaponry, doesn't mean that Smith wasn't a real life-and-death threat in that scenario.
Smith had his own large "militia" in Nauvoo among every-day people. Likewise, prison guards weren't a large contingent of people. Their "back-ups" would be the equivalent of a volunteer fire dept in a rural area.
A guard who felt threatened by a prisoner with loaded weapons, with murderous Smith bodyguards on the loose like Porter Rockwell (one who Mormons celebrate his b-day today, I believe)...and a well-armed militia who could act on behalf of Smith...I could at least see why some vigilantes would have felt threatened -- and certainly whatever guards were there could have felt so threatened.
You guys are burning out fast.
Maybe its the lack of substance to the “rebuttals”...
LOL, when a post is that weak, just skip it.
#1...At one point in the early 1840s, Smith’s Nauvoo, IL built-up Mormon community was at large — or larger — than Chicago was at the time.
In that Chicago was founded in 1833, population 350, this is not saying much. By 1840, over 4,000, ninety-second most populous city in the United States.
#2...In 1844, Smith himself had declared himself a candidate for POTUS...something he wouldn’t have done if he was dealing with political rivalry in Nauvoo...which he really didn’t have.
Not in Nauvoo, but in the entire state. And seriously, if you’re going to vie to become POTUS, running as an independent, having yourself declared king shortly thereafter is probably not going to help.
Why did Joe Smith die so young:
Given the number of wives he had, it’s conceivable he just wanted to...
You might want to talk to all your anti friends and get your story straight, then. A lot of them keep mentioning the mob.
Arkincide?
