A bill imposing jail terms of up to three years on those who offend religious believers is set to become law in Russia. The new blasphemy law was approved by the State Duma in Moscow on Tuesday, June 11.
According to the bill, “public actions expressing clear disrespect for society and committed with the goal of offending religious feelings of the faithful” would be punishable with jail terms of up to one year and fines of up to 300,000 rubles ($9,200). While “publicly expressing clear disrespect to believers, including actions undertaken at places of worship,” would be punishable by up to three years in prison, fines of up to 500,000 rubles, and compulsory correctional labor.
In addition to passing the new anti-blasphemy law, the country’s lower house of Parliament also passed a bill to outlaw activism by lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex (LGBTI) individuals and their supporters.
Both new pieces of legislation are being promoted by a large portion of the Russian political establishment, and not surprisingly, both are strongly backed by the Russian Orthodox Church.
The new blasphemy legislation comes in the aftermath of last year’s trial and conviction of three members of the all-female Russian punk group Pussy Riot for “hooliganism on grounds of religious hatred” after they sang a protest song in Moscow’s main Orthodox cathedral.

It’s not blasphemy to point out the fact that islam is heretical in it’s refusal to subscribe to the truth of the Bible and accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.
In America, people are free to believe anything they choose to put faith in. Even Islam is allowed, because that encompasses religious freedom. HOWEVER, in America, when Islam seeks to force Americans to live by the laws of Islam or tries to shut people up for contending with Islam, TAHT is a violation of Constitutionally defined rights.

But it does not insult the God of the Bible, so there would be no civil law in an explicitly Christian nation that would apply.
In an explicitly Christian nation, the sphere of the Church is matters of faith. The worst penalty a Church can administer is excommunication. If one is not a member of a Church, then one is not under the Church’s authority, which is only spiritual.
Anyone in an explicitly Christian nation who is not a member of a Church is only subject to civil law.
