TOPICS: Catholic; Current Events; History; Religion & Culture
KEYWORDS: canonized; catholic; farmer; manwife
I just wanted to take the opportunity to post this picture. I've been planting corn, beans, eggplants, and tomatoes. Melons soon. I like the farmer saints (I include St. Benedict of Nursia in that list, too.)

There are very few husband-and-wife pairs of canonized saints. Let's see: Mary & Joseph. Joachim & Anna. Isidore & Maria. Hmm. Hmm.

Anybody know any others? I'd like to make a list!

As you can see, my screen name is St. Isidore. My grandfather had a farm, so on summer vacations in Missouri I put in some farm time doing chores.

When it came time to pick a saint’s name for Confirmation, all the guys were going the Francis, Anthony, etc. route. I came on St. Isidore the farmer. Hey, the angels did his work when he went to church. I thought, “Yeah, baby, this is MY guy. Get the angels to do the heavy lifting for me!! Whoo hoo!”

My parents were not pleased with this choice because they didn’t know who he was, and I certainly DID NOT tell them the reason for my choice. But it was quite appropriate for a kick-back southern California dude who occasionally threw hay bales in a barn loft in 90 degree Missouri heat and 110 percent humidity! Calgon, take me away! St. Isidore, pray for us.

This is not the St. Isadore who is the patron saint of the internet?

My senior mother came from a farm up in northern Maine. No wonder I have like her been an early bird.

The one you're thinking of is a different one (but also from Spain), St. Isidore of Seville. He was a bishop and scholar, and is considered the patron saint of the Internet, computer technicians, programmers and users, and computer science students. As well as bee-keepers.

I don't know why!!

Isidore? No, Isinotidore; Isiwindows.

Seriously, I looked it up:

St. Isadore created a hardcopy search engine: a 20-volume encyclopedia “of all human knowledge.” For a thousand years, it was considered the ultimate research tool.

Oh yes, how could I forget Zachary and Elizabeth!! Very dear souls. And it’s one of the really great stories in Luke. I’m looking forward to meeting these people someday.
