I thought it was obvious that Mary had not remained a virgin after Christ’s birth, since the Bible mentions the brothers of Jesus. I could see no basis for a belief in the Assumption or the Immaculate Conception. The view of Mary as Coredemptrix and Mediatrix seemed to lower the role of Christ as our sole redeemer and mediator.

While David wrote the above, I think he left out a word. "I could see no SCRIPTURAL basis for a belief....etc." in the second sentence of the above excerpt. It makes all the difference.

Assumption, Immaculate Conception, Coredemptrix, and Mediatrix: with the possible exception of "The Assumption", all the above four are without scriptural foundation that I have ever read.

Scott Hahn, in one of his books I've read, suggests the Assumption is depicted in Revelation 12. I don't think it's a close call, but there is a bit of a point there.

I'm open to hearing scripture that does provide a foundation for those beliefs.

The catch 22 was this: How did you know whether your faith was strong enough to save you? As a child, I repeatedly would hear the altar call and wonder, “What if I was not really sincere last time?” The best solution was to go down again and make sure. Since faith was all it took to be saved, it was important to be sure that the faith you mustered up was genuine!

Then he never really understand faith.

It's a common error that one has to have *great* or *enough* faith.

Jesus said that if you had faith the size of a mustard seed, you could move mountains.

What a bunch of baloney. While He did pray that we'd be one, that verse doesn't even come close to saying that.

John 17:20-21 20 “I do not ask for these only, but also for those who will believe in me through their word, 21 that they may all be one, just as you, Father, are in me, and I in you, that they also may be in us, so that the world may believe that you have sent me.

He never said a word about “One Holy and Apostolic Catholic Church”. The purpose of His prayer for us to be one was so that the world would believe that God sent Jesus. That's the reason He gave Himself.

I will congratulate you on your admission of your misunderstanding of the Magisterial office. Individual doctrinal opinions do not a Church make. It is the Church who gathers the opinions and decides on doctrine. It is not the individuals, as in the however many thousand Protestant denominations, who decide what Christ wants us to believe.

This is the first admission of misunderstanding that I have seen you make since you have rejoined FR under another name. I must pat you on the shoulder and call you George.

The funny thing is that although you put your emphasis on the "It is written" part, it is always preceded by the words "Jesus said" is a text that did not even exist until nearly 40 years after his death.
