....[Rev. Michael Fugee], 52, is a priest of the Archdiocese of Newark and under Myers supervision. His work at St. Marys, however, was in the neighboring Diocese of Trenton, where Bishop David OConnell has ordered the pastor of St. Mary to bar Fugee from any church activities, a spokeswoman said in a statement. The bishop of the neighboring Diocese of Paterson, Arthur Serratelli, has likewise said Fugee was on a retreat at Lake Hopatcong without his permission....
[In 2003] prosecutors allowed him to enter a rehabilitation program for first-time offenders, on the condition that he undergo counseling for sex offenders and sign an agreement barring him from any work in which children are involved. The archdioceses vicar general, on behalf of Myers, signed the agreement as well.
Yet The Star-Ledger found Fugee has apparently violated that pledge with impunity, attending retreats and hearing confessions and traveling with members of the St. Mary youth group to Canada. Jim Goodness, a spokesman for Myers, denied Fugee had broken the agreement because he was under the supervision of other priests and St. Marys two youth ministers, who are longtime friends with the priest. Father Fugee remains a priest who is allowed to be in ministry, Goodness said Monday (April 29). There is no change in his status at this point.
What’s to worry about? He signed an agreement.
Rules are for the little people.
Well, you can’t always trust the news services on stories like this. But if this story is accurate, then for once it looks as if they are right, and Archbishop Myers SHOULD resign.
Usually, the bishop is slammed by the press for no good reason. But in this case, it looks as if there may be a good reason, if this report is accurate.
I don’t know this bishop. Does anyone know anything about his views and his handling of dissident clergy? The city of Newark is a cesspool of liberal corruption, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that the bishop fits that description. But this doesn’t sound good.
Faggot clergy and the faggot clergy who protect them. Damn them to hell.
...but they don’t mind Scoutmasters.
Really... One of these bishops needs to get some actual punishment from the Church, not just a slap on the wrist.
Take both Myers and Fugee out and string them up from the nearest tree.
And they don’t mind the teachers who molest children.
And they don’t mind the protestant and other non Catholic clergy who molest children.
Judging by the reaction of the neighboring bishops, this bishop should go.
Apparently quite an issue with Orthodox Jewish Rabbis as well.
Someone needs to go St. Nicholas on all involved.
That is a useful link when posts are along the lines of ‘all Catholic Priests are Pederasts.’ However in this case I think we should be outraged as Catholics that this Archbishop and this Priest are clearly acting in a manner that we should condemn.
Obfuscating this case with an ‘everyone is guilty’ defense is not helpful. We are Catholic and we should do better, we have more to lose.
Well, the most the Church can do to punish a Priest or a Bishop is to remove him from office and remove his facilities. They are no longer clergy in the Church, and have to find some other way to earn a living.
But in a case like this, it’s up to the state and the law to punish them further, if that is indicated.
The whole business is further complicated because most bishops are NOT guilty of anything, but are being attacked by lawyers looking for money or by liberal media anxious to bash the Church. That’s why I indicated that this case may be exceptional, and the bishop may indeed by guilty as charged by the press.
If this is true, both he and the Archbishop should be escorted out of ministry permanently. As a Catholic, I am tired of knowing that there are still creeps out there that we know are creeps and tired of defending my Churches apparent inability to learn from past mistakes.
Ironic, isn't it?
Goodness, two youth ministers, Myers, Fugee and 'other priests'...There's an entire pedophile ring that needs to be eliminated just in one little area...And then you have to wonder how many more are involved...
I wouldn't send any of my pets to this religion...Who knows how many leaders are inclined 'that way'...
