Too Many Churches In This Town!

Posted on 04/27/2013 3:44:31 PM PDT by Vinylly

Across the street from us we have a 'First Congregational United Church of Christ'. They have a lesbian pastor, but still sometimes we have some discussions outside on the street. What took the cake, specially for a supposed religious person is when she said 'The problem with this city is that there are too many Churches.'(Her church is drastically losing membership) My jaw dropped, all I could say is 'The problem with this city is that there is not enough churches preaching the gospel!' (This city has the smallest church attendence in the country) What would you say to a pastor like that?

your answer was excellent.

if a person had sufficient time to prepare a reply, perhaps this slight embellishment would be helpful:

“preaching the gospel and trying to live in accordance with its teachings”

but your answer was very to the point for her.

I think your response was great! And praise the Lord that her church is losing members. The Holy Spirit is doing HIS job even when people aren’t.

Too many churches like hers; just wings of the dim party with potlucks.

There is nothing you will ever say to her that will lift the scales off her eyes. She is lesbian and she thinks a woman should be a pastor. You said about all you could.

Wow, you missed a great opportunity! You should have said (with complete politeness): if you think there are too many churches in town, why don’t you close yours? I think you should take to her again, but be completely polite and ask her why she thinks there are too many churches. And if she doesn’t want to close her church to alleviate that, isn’t she being intolerant of the people in all those other churches out there?

Wait 12 months and you won’t have to see them anymore after they shut-down.

‘The problem with this city is that there is not enough churches preaching the gospel!’

Excellent response. But, of course, she wouldn’t be able to process that answer since she obviously hasn’t done much Bible study (or, is she has, doesn’t believe it).

I remember when the UCC church in a small mid-west city had a homosexual pastor back in the late eighties. Once a thriving church, their attendance halved almost immediately. I don’t know how they supported him and his so-called partner thereafter.

In my neighborhood alone there are about 30 churches, ranging from little storefronts to big, ornate, expensive ones. And most of them are either Baptist or Evangelical. Homeless people flock to the big ones on Saturday, because they have very generous free food pantries. One street alone has four big churches on it. And on Sunday mornings, they are really jamming. You can hear that soulful gospel music all over the neighborhood.

“’First Congregational United Church of Christ’. They have a lesbian pastor,”

That is no church....

Are you from Granger? Two of my children were born in Sunnyside. When we moved to SS in the early 80’s I was amazed at how many Churches were in that small town.

I would point out that, “where two or three are gathered in His name . . .” and if the leaders of existing churches will not gather in His name, Christians will go elsewhere.

She is not a pastor. She is a sexually confused little girl playing dress up.

There is only one true Church; the Roman Catholic Church. All of the other institutions they call “churches” are in error. When the Second Vatican Council adopted their false “ecumenism”, they set in motion the erroneous belief among many catholics that other religions are just as good. That is a lie. As Pope Francis has said in a very recent homily, “it is not possible to find Jesus outside the Catholic Church”. Perhaps this Pope is beginning to work the Church back to the truth. But in any case, the lady is right (but probably for the wrong reasons), that there are too many “churches” in any town if there is one more, other than the Catholic Church.

Watch, she will become a *civil rights* church and a beacon for all discriminated against people in the area. She will probably apply for federal grants for her *outreach* such as talks to kids in highschool, and *support systems* for poor gay kids and adults who are having a hard time coming out of the closet.

Revered Wright seems to be using a variant of this scheme which is probably how he could afford a million dollar house.

Did he say “Roman Catholic Church” or did he say “catholic church”?
