Featured Term (selected at random):

SANCTUARY

The part of a church containing the altar. If there are several altars, the sanctuary is for the high altar. In the Byzantine tradition it is enclosed by the iconostasis. It is the center of liturgical ceremony, clearly distinct from the main body of the church. (Etym. Latin sanctuarium, holy place, shrine.)

TOPICS: Apologetics; Catholic; History; Theology
KEYWORDS: catholic
**clearly distinct from the main body of the church**

Missing in some non-Catholic churches I have attended. They have a stage instead??? There seems to be no holiness connected with it.....just entertainment.
