How Summorum Pontificum was blocked and trampled on in Buenos Aires
Rorate Caeli ^ | 3/14/2013 | New Catholic

And so what was the great and generous application of Summorum Pontificum in the Archdiocese of Buenos Aires? One Novus Ordo-TLM hybrid once a month. And, as it happens to any badly celebrated Latin Mass, the number of attending faithful fast dwindled from one hundred to a handful. And, naturally, it was discontinued. So, as correctly mentioned in WikiMissa, there is currently not a single actual Traditional Mass according to the 1962 Missal celebrated by diocesan priests of the Archdiocese of Buenos Aires. And every priest who tried to truly implement Summorum in his parish - that is, out of their own initiative, without "authorization" from the Bishop - was ordered to stop. It is what happened to a poor priest who tried to do it in the chapel of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, in October 2007, and was personally ordered by the Archbishop to stop in November 2007. [The complete post of this shameful event, also mentioned by Página Católica, in a 2011 post, will also be translated and posted shortly.]

Catholics know that we like ornate churches, beautiful music, and elaborate vestments for the Pope (and even normal parish priests) and we oppose the Protestant version of bare and simple things.

Now suddenly, everyone seems to have changed. Note I am not saying the new Pope is a closet Protestant or anything like it, but there is true poverty and true humility and false versions too.

I disagree. He will eventually learn to wear the trappings of the papacy well, but still in his own way.

After he meets with Pope Emeritus Benedict, reads the 300 page dossier on the VatiLeaks scandal,

Is there any indication that the contents of the dossier were shared with the Cardinals?

Let’s hope that, given time, he’ll strike a reasonable balance. He may favor personal simplicity, but that’s no reason to assume that Summorum Pontificum is in jeopardy. The logical approach to “rebuilding the Church” would be to strive for as much inclusivity as possible (i.e. continue to provide for the Tridentine Mass and also bring home the Anglicans, the SSPX, etc.).

Let us pray for our Sovereign Pontiff Francis.

The Lord preserve him, and give him life, and make him blessed upon the earth, and deliver him not up to the will of his enemies.

There was some talk that the three retired Cardinals who prepared the dossier would discuss it with the College of Cardinals but I have not seen any confirmation either way. At one time Bergoglio proposed to his childhood sweetheart and was turned down, so maybe the Cardinals thought, "At least we know he's straight..."
