(Reuters) - Cardinals in secret conclave failed twice on Wednesday morning to elect a new pope, as black smoke over the Sistine Chapel showed ballots on the first full day of voting were inconclusive.

Thanks, I was just wondering about that! Maybe this afternoon, their time ... like noonish for me.
It is all in God’s timing.
Absolutely true.
Good grief ... did they think they’d get it on the first vote? The folks at Reuters must be idiots.
The third vote is the point at which the Cardinals could have reasonably thrashed things out. If we get to the fifth vote and they still haven’t decided, then I think we’re in for a long haul....
And I’m sure the 3rd vote was a step toward a final. I’m thinking today is the day. Tomorrow at the latest.
I have a feeling we will have a new Pope by Saturday Morning.
I would say by no latter than either Friday or Saturday.
I would say by no latter than the end of the week. With Easter early this year and Holy Week has its own special worship services, the cardinals will need to be home for them.
The media acted the same way the last time....as if it should be alarming that it takes more than a few minutes.
I am quite confident that a new pope will be elected, without mediation from Jimmy Carter et al.
No reason to worry.
Yep, in the eyes of the world, this is slow, but as I have been saying for some time now, let the Holy Spirit do HIS WORK.
Remember...they still have one more vote today (two ballots in the morning, two in the afternoon, supposedly). Yesterday, the black smoke poured out at about 3pm EDT (Noon PDT), so sometime within the next 5 hours or so we should know if the afternoon session produces a pope. I know that if no pope is elected after a certain number of days, they take a day off for prayer and meditation before trying again.
I suspect between today and no latter than Saturday, but that is me.
It took 11 ballots to choose Pope John XXIII and 8 ballots to choose Pope John Paul II.
Three ballots?
I thought they had only done two. But then the time thing......1:00 pm my time.
I believe I heard on the Catholic channel on XM/Sirius that Saturday would be a day off if no decision has been made.
which actually creates an incentive for smaller voting blocs to stand their ground ... If they don’t care about how long they’re in conclave, but know others do, it provides them an enormous amount of leverage.
The first afternoon they had one ballot. Then they have two each morning and two each afternoon, but I think the smoke goes up just twice a day. So this morning’s smoke would have been after the third ballot.
WOOHOOO!!! Viva il Papa!
I had a feeling it would be today.
