VATICAN CITY, February 11, 2013, (LifeSiteNews.com) Homosexual Catholic groups hope after Pope Benedict XVI steps down, a new progressive Pope will champion LGBT issues, female ordination, and contraception at a Third Vatican Council.
The new Pope will have an opportunity like Pope John XXIII to open wide windows of the Church so that fresh ideas may fill the Church by calling for a new Ecumenical Council of the Church, Vatican III, said the Rainbow Sash Movement in a press release on Pope Benedict XVI's resignation. .
The resignation of Pope Benedict XVI [is] an opportunity for the Church to finally to start addressing the many scandals that are facing it, the dissenting organization said. Those range from the clergy sexual abuse scandal, birth control issues, womens ordination, sexuality that deals with the human rights of LGBT People, and looming largely on the horizon are financial issues that involve a lack of ethics that would create a culture of transparency and accountability.
The group of homosexual and transgender Catholics stated the next pope should step away from an emphasis on purity. Instead, he must continue the reforms of Vatican II and seriously embrace the road to Ecumenicalism. [sic]
New York Times reporter and columnist Nicholas Kristof wrote that he would like to see the Catholic Church change its policy on contraception, on female and non-celibate priests, and on gays...The church has such influence worldwide that it would be great to see a Vatican III!
The homosexual Catholic group Equally Blessed cited the Vatican's worldwide impact, claiming that by promoting discrimination against LGBT people, the church inflicts pain on marginalized people, alienates the faithful, and lends moral credibility to reactionary political movements across the globe.
To right this wrong, DignityUSA called on the Cardinals and the new Pope to enter into a true dialogue with our community. We call for an end to statements that inflict harm on already marginalized people, depict us as less than fully human, and lend credence to those seeking to justify discrimination.
The new pope, the group hopes, will not only to embrace but...champion the homosexual rights movement.
History reminds us that no one expected the election of Pope John XXIII in 1958, and in calling the Second Vatican Council, he clearly moved the church into a more progressive era, wrote Francis DeBernardo of New Ways Ministry.
The statements of Equally Blessed and DignityUSA were faithfully reported by the National Catholic Reporter. In its coverage of Pope Benedict's resignation Monday, Reuters news service also printed unattributed statements hoping the next pope would be more progressive.
The present pontiff's unwavering loyalty to the Magisterium's teaching on moral issues provoked a series of public clashes with liberal dissenters, as well as behind-the-scenes battles with European bishops, both as pope for eight years and previously as head of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith (CDF).
For the last three decades, [Pope] Benedict has been one of the main architects of the Vaticans policies against LGBT people, wrote DeBernardo, who rehearsed his own organization's history of clashes with the pontiff.
New Ways Ministry directly experienced those harsh policies several times over the years, most notably in 1999 when the CDF attempted to silence our organizations co-founders, Sister Jeannine Gramick and Father Robert Nugent, he added. Fortunately, we have survived the many attempts by the Vatican to end our ministry, and, thanks to the support of so many Catholics, we have emerged stronger for it.
As the head of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, then-Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger said the ministry's work was doctrinally unacceptable and enjoined them from further ministry or writing on homosexuality.
Yet last Valentines Day, DeBernardo and Sr. Grammick penned an op-ed in The Washington Post entitled, A Catholic Case for Same-Sex Marriage.
The Catechism of the Catholic Church teaches that homosexual activities constitute grave depravity...Under no circumstances can they be approved.
I’m not Catholic, but I have to say this is why the Church must completely reject such groups. If they don’t believe in the teachings of a certain faith, why are they in it? Why try to change it, other than for suspect purposes? It would be like me, being a Baptist, joining a Mormon Temple, and then trying to change everything they teach.
Oh, it's worse than that. The old Baltimore Catechism called it a sin that cried out to heaven for vengeance.
Head for the hills. Don't look back.
“Then I guess all those priests who molested kids must have been straight”
Nice try, but that’s not what I meant.
Try a little critical thinking.
The country had voted for FDR 4 times starting in 1932. That was the beginning of the decline. FDR was even more radical than Obama - much more along the lines of Hugo Chavez. Read FDR's second bill of rights to get an idea of what he really was. Thankfully FDR died and we were spared the kind of socialism he really believed in. America did well for awhile post WW2 because the rest of the industrialized world was destroyed. Once we had to actually compete it became obvious the policies this country had put in place were a disaster - along with the bloated, corrupt labor unions that were saddling much of industry with an extra layer of bureaucracy.
translation: people living in sin would rather change the church than themselves.
It ain't complicated
Catholic Homosexuals?
If the Catholic Church teaches the word of God then these folks are open sinners basically wanting their sin to be authorized by the new Pope.
If the next Pope DOES those things he will be the “Last Pope”.
“Do they really believe the church will bless anal matrimony?”
Butt-hole-y matrimony? too far?
“gay Catholic? No such reality.”
There are plenty of pro-abortion, liberal Catholics. No excommunication for Nancy Pelosi... that’s a sad reality.
Yes, the “all about me” gays who think the whole world revolves around them and their narcissistic behaviors.
Thre are many people who are "attracted" to more calories a day than they can healthily ingest, but that is not called gluttony, it's called "temptation."
And there are men who are "attracted" to men, and women who are "attracted" to women, but that is not called sodomy: it's called "temptation".
"Temptation" becomes sin only when it is deliberately entertained or indulged; not when it is resisted.
People attracted to the same sex can indeed be Christians and can indeed lead lives of heroic virtue and be saints. This is by the grace of God, in which they struggle to resist sins of thought, word, and deed.
As must we all, every day of our lives. Because the attractions are all around us. It's called "temptation".
The last Trial of The Church in the form of a religious deception offering men an apparent solution to their problems at the price of apostasy from the truth.
We wait in joyful hope for the second coming of Our Lord and Savior to judge the living and the dead.
“Homosexual Catholic groups hope after Pope Benedict XVI steps down, a new progressive Pope will champion LGBT issues, female ordination, and contraception at a Third Vatican Council.”
Not a chance in hell which is where they are all going.
A thoughtful gay writer, Richard Rodriguez, notes that "Contracepting couples are heterosexual gays."
In those days, we were still an united, Christian country. Just check out the movies once the Hayes Commission came into being. (And I speak as a pre-code fan!) Today, we are fractured and contemptous of religion. Very different from FDR - and I basically agree with you.
Unfortunately, Francis Cardinal Arinze is now 80 years old. Pope Benedict XVI was already 78 when elected and he has run out of steam at age 86. How many of us work until we’re 86?
Are the disgusting Rainbow Sash buttpeople still out there? And why do they assume that Third World cardinals are likely to be sexual liberation radicals?
I would say: “If the next Pope DOES those things, THE POPE BEFORE HIM would have been the “Last Pope”.
