Call Him 'The God Father': Husband and Dad Will Become Catholic Priest -- and Take Vow of Celibacy

John Cornelius, who is married, will be ordained this weekend -- and sex-free life begins

John Cornelius will be ordained a Roman Catholic priest this weekend — and with the blessing of his wife they're giving up their sex life. Cornelius, a father of three, will become the first married Roman Catholic priest in New York — and Sharyl, his wife of 33-years, has agreed to the whole celibacy thing.

“We have decided to do that voluntarily,” Cornelius told WGRZ-TV. “I have always had friends that are Roman Catholic priests and I appreciate what they've given up to serve God and the priesthood.”

Cornelius, 64, is a former Episcopalian priest who converted three years ago to Catholicism. He said his old church had gotten too liberal for him.

"And when Jesus entered Peter’s house, he saw his mother-in-law lying sick with a fever." (Matthew 8:14)

You have apparently been confused by what Luther started.

The REAL question is what Jesus' mother-in-law was doing in Peter's house!

Well, that's not too hard as there is no sex in heaven.

The BOOK says there's no MARRIAGE...

We can get WAY off topic if we start talking about the BRIDE of Christ...

However, as it is written:

“What no eye has seen,
what no ear has heard,
and what no human mind has conceived”—
the things God has prepared for those who love him—

you should consider changing your tag line to "revolution fan" because the "reformation " reformed nothing.

Oh??

Pope Stephen VI (896–897), who had his predecessor Pope Formosus exhumed, tried, de-fingered, briefly reburied, and thrown in the Tiber.[1]

Pope John XII (955–964), who gave land to a mistress, murdered several people, and was killed by a man who caught him in bed with his wife.

Pope Benedict IX (1032–1044, 1045, 1047–1048), who "sold" the Papacy

Pope Boniface VIII (1294–1303), who is lampooned in Dante's Divine Comedy

Pope Urban VI (1378–1389), who complained that he did not hear enough screaming when Cardinals who had conspired against him were tortured.[2]

Pope Alexander VI (1492–1503), a Borgia, who was guilty of nepotism and whose unattended corpse swelled until it could barely fit in a coffin.[3]

Pope Leo X (1513–1521), a spendthrift member of the Medici family who once spent 1/7 of his predecessors' reserves on a single ceremony[4]

Pope Clement VII (1523–1534), also a Medici, whose power-politicking with France, Spain, and Germany got Rome sacked.

As a good Catholic, I don’t understand why he would do this. sex is part of marriage and there is no requirement to give it up. This is wierd to me.

The Catholic church teaches it, the Catholic church is infallible, therefore I believe it.

Weird? Only Rome many defines what is normal. The Roman Catholic parish of Kutná Hora-Sedlec

The gargoyles of Notre Dame:

What are these fantastic monsters doing in the cloisters before the eyes of the brothers as they read? What is the meaning of these unclean monkeys, these strange savage lions, and monsters? To what purpose are here placed these creatures, half beast, half man, or these spotted tigers? I see several bodies with one head and several heads with one body. Here is a quadruped with a serpent's head, there a fish with a quadruped's head, then again an animal half horse, half goat... Surely if we do not blush for such absurdities, we should at least regret what we have spent on them. (Bernard of Clairvaux)

No that's silly.

They were married and Joseph was told to take her for his wife.

Married people have sex.

Otherwise Mary and Joseph would have been in violation of the Bible.

They seemed to be very devout followers of God and would not disobey his word.

Do you quit eating, too?

How how does loving God above all things preclude eating, drinking, breathing, having sex, etc?

Do people who love God above all else not bathe or dress themselves, or wash their clothes or cook meals or shop for food or grow it?

Do you think or does Catholicism teach, that you can’t love God and do those things as well? Or that doing those things mean you are not loving God?

And what does loving God above all things entail that it precludes those things?

**The Catholic church sends mixed messages.**

Ever hear of loving God above all things?

The heavy inferrence in that loaded question are monumental, yet allowed in the RF.

Did you ever hear of having a born again personal relationship with Jesus Christ our Savouir?

Ever hear of going straight to Jesus without going through Mary?

It is done all the time by Christians.

People who love God above all things recognize that the Catholic church sends mixed messages.

Apparantly, if you become a priest while married, you cannot love God above all things unless you go against the Biblical scriptures concerning marriage.

Now that is a conundrum of epic proportions for this poor man. And quite the oxymoron!

He's damned if he does, and damned if he doesn't.

He can be a priest while living in an un-Biblical marriage? Mixed message.

It looks like this bought into the "traditional" Mary and Joseph unscriptural teachings in order to serve the "Church."

Better if he would instead serve God.

“nor are there any writings against this...The Catholic church teaches it, the Catholic church is infallible, therefore I believe it.”

I am not trying to get you to change your beliefs.

However, you made a truth claim. I pointed out it is a claim without support in the Bible or the first 100 years of the Church. Consequently, it is made up.

As to your new truth claim about the Catholic Church being infallible, I will only say that history contradicts your claim in a legion of ways. Can you provide validation for your claim? Evidence? Facts?

There is nothing more resistant to truth than a mind which has only one idea.
