It’s pretty safe to say that they’re better persons and more charitable than many of the so-called Evangelicals show by their comments in threads like this.
“This is what makes this whole thing so funny. Your church has to use two Born Again Christians as examples of good Christian witnesses in sports.”
1) No, the Church doesn’t.
2) The Church also has plenty of Catholic examples (all of whom are also born again - as the Gospels actually teach). If you read the article - and with Protestants reading comprehension always seems to be an issue - you would see that Tebow and Lin would be AMONG THOSE INCLUDED in the event. They would not be alone. There are plenty of active and retired Catholic athletes: http://catholicathletesforchrist.com/speakers/bios/index.htm
3) Since the article is intended for an American audience, American athletes were named. Not all Catholic athletes are Americans - in case you didn’t know.
“If someone has just a basic understanding of what Evangelical Born Again Christians believe and what Roman Catholics believe they would understand that the two are very distinct.”
Yes, Catholicism is entirely true, while Evangelicalism is only partly true.
“I suppose the marketing wing of the Roman Catholic Church banks on most people not understanding our differences.”
I think the Catholic Church actually knows the case is the opposite. I am sure that the Catholic Church is also aware that there are meanspirited and stupid people who are a complete embarrassment to Evangelicalism and who have nothing better to do with their time than post on forms about things they know little or nothing about.
I also noticed you did not even remotely deal with what I actually posted. Clearly the guts it takes to meet issues head on is had by many professional athletes, but not by all so-called Evangelicals.
Phillip Rivers of the San Diego chargers, Lou Holtz, and Bowie Kuhn are all pretty open about their faith. Rivers was featured in the Theology of the Body DVDs I showed to my kids.
Grant Desme left the Oakland A's to become a Norbertine priest.
Those are the examples that come to mind.
Let me help you out:
Lol!! That’s funny!!! I just fell and I can’t get up. I broke a rib cage. Life alert please come help!! Rofl!!!
Somehow I missed this thread. What happened to all of the "good Catholic witnesses in sports" figures?
I thought it was pretty odd that the 2 sports figures they mentioned were Born Again Christians.
Pretty good bet, if you’re a betting man, that the Hawks will win the championship! ;-)
